Hey guys just want your opinion on this. grandmothers car had been vibrating at idle for about 6 months she didnt feel it but i did. i assumed gummy fuel injectors from the ethanol crap (75k miles) so litterally the day i was going to put injector cleaner in the tank she was on 128 and it smokes.
dealership picked it up and did plugs wires coil 02 and the fuel injector for one cylinder (to the tune of $1500) still vibrates slightly worse than before at idle-- aka i dont think any of that had to be done... plugs at 75k...
i had not had a good experience with this delaership in the past (Prime dealerships youve seen the commericals) David Rosenberg apoligized to me on his radio show because i called him out on trying to screw my mother on a car when i was like 18... he threw a hissy fit and screamed at me (he was charging her over 10k more than book/ competition but telling her he was helping her out because one of his dealerships sold her a new lemon the week before) so not a good history with this dealership but i dont think they new the relationship this time
bottom line they come back and say they did a compression test and the connecting rod is bent in cylinder 5 causing the vibration. the injector was stuck open fuel poored in and when it ignited it blew and bent the connecting rod. 5k to fix plus incidentals on pulling engine. needless to say i picked up the car and gave them the 1500
i would think the head would blow before the connecting rod in a mercedes engine would bend? opinons? also, it seems to be running (7 cylinders is good enough for the old women and it does ignite after idle i think) no check engine light. is it dangerous for her to drive- ie does havign a 'bent' rod make it more apt to break?
thanks

am going to hopefully trade it in. of course the dealer notes that the rod is bent in the service report... can only mercedes dealers see that or all dealers when they run the vin?

bring it to a Non Benz Dealer and trade it in ....they wont run a report on it ...sales guy will come out drive it around the block tell you he will give you XXX amount of money for it and then you can go back and forth with them
i traded in my Pathfinder had a set price of what i NEEDED to get and worked them on the car i was buying ...truck needed brakes , tires , struts shocks CEL was on (i reset it before pulling into dealer to drop it off ) guy just drove it around the block and said ok lets talk numbers ....make sure its cleaned up bring it to them and make a deal
