just did my fuel filter... check out this pic

just changed the fuel filter in my f150 with 30k... after finally getting the right sized line tool and finding a new clip that ford told me wouldnt break but oh, even though i asked 3 times and no, no they dont break anymore... it broke... took about 20 minutes on my back... but look at the pic... just shows how 'clean' the gas were getting at the pump is... i usually buy regualr but will sometimes put it mid grade... maybe once or twice i put in premium in the truck but nothing hsould be this dirty... left is the inlet fuel before being filtered, right is after (yes theres gas in the cup)... the filter was nasty too...i will be changing every 15k from now on...

thats nasty... there was so much residue it looked almost like the bottom of a coffee cup... pretty happy though i saved myself a bunch of money on the 30k service and it was my first time doin a fuel filter on a car... got some new tools and figured it out... 440$ for the dealer to do fuel/ air filter, an oil change and inspect a bunch of shit... ridiculous... i think my total costs using motorcraft parts including tools and new clips was about 65 bucks, and 30 minutes

and ill pay jiffy lube or sullivan tire the 100 bucks for a tranny flush... maybe even the dealer to do an oil change in a couple thousand miles just to get their inspection on record for warranty-- and i got a coupon in the mail haha

Really all depends on the service station and the quality of their tanks...not so much the grade. There is no difference in cleanliness between 87 and 93 octane, so no need to worry there.

Some say to never fill up when the fill trunk is there because the tank get stirred up. They say to come back the next day when the tank is full and the dirt has settled. Also older tanks will have more crud than newer tanks.

basically, try a different gas station and see if their tank is cleaner.

I did a filter on my '03 GT at 30K miles..and it looked pretty much the same. REverse flushing it spilled out black crud. Now i change fuel filters religiously
