Anyone ever heated springs in fox body in the rear just wondering friend gave me front springs and want to lower just a little in the rear not to much cause I'm gonna b running a drag radial
heating or cutting are not the right ways buying new springs are the correct way to do it heating a spring makes it loose spring rate cutting springs increeses spring rates
When cutting, you can actually change the spring rate cutting a progressive rate spring. That's when you get the "bouncing honda" syndrome. Specific rate springs, like the 03/04 cobra springs, can be cut if care is given to cut slowly and not heat the spring up much.
And heating the springs can actually weaken the spring material. You are basically bringing it to the point of fatigue and allowing the weight to settle the spring slightly. Prob is you've now changed the properties of the metal and have severly weakened it. The collapse of the WTC was due to heat acting on the metal supports.
While neither is really desireable..i'd take cut springs over heated springs anyday.
