STARTER SOLENOID WTF?????!!!


does anybody have anyclue y every 2 weeks my starter solenoid shits the bed??? sometimes when i turn the key to start it will just keep turning over after its running ..........but after 2 weeks it just dies i replace it and its fine for a week or so then goes again wtf lol . getting pretty pricy seeing i drive it once a week lol!!! any ideas guys?????? its a 1985 gt

my battery ground cable looks like it has seen better days , u think that could actually do that????

You're wiring it incorrectly most likely... original non gear reduction starter.......Everyone wires them wrong

This went on my explorer you might not need a new solenoid just check the weird little wire thingy (haha) that connects to it, take it off and then jump it using a screwdriver. if that works then its the wire.

keep a hammer in your car jus give it a bang wen it wont stop cranking lol. have u double checked the motor and battery connections on the selniod. also i would do a voltage drop test to much resistance in the wires could be making it to hott and frying it, that would explain it continuing to crank also

nah its wired correctly , ive put them in before ive had to many of these cars lol , never had a repeated issue after puttin in a new one tho , kinda sucks lol

wiress, none of them should drop more than .05v from the battery to the solenoid . a corroded wire could explain all the problems yours having...............

is your ignition sticking when you turn the key???? and is your starter aligned with the correct shim???

it probally burns out cause its still turn after you turn the key making it overheat and burn out

its either wired wrong or its not a oem solinoid......i had a mustang i bought in the past that would start and the starter would stay engaged after running maybe 5-10 seconds......turns out the starter solinoid near the battery was wired wrong. once i corrected it i never had a problem again. funny thing is the guy before me could not figure it out and owned his own shop!!!

well i'mm about 85% sure its wired correctly , i was 100% till i started this topic lol , so i'm ganna ask , what it the proper way to wire it up? and someone said it could be the in-line fuse thingy ??????

i had the same prob exactly i ended up getin a new one a week later i needed another then hapened again i put one of the olds one in and it workd did it again put another old one it it worked so i played with the wires one was coroded and it fixed the problem
