can i run into any problems taking the covers off? any precautions i should take

either way u will need a new set of valve cover gaskets...no real trouble should come up just be careful not to damage the cover man

they should come right out.......the paint on the plastic valve coveers may not stick that well.

Easy as pie !! Pulled them off many times on my 02 and the rubber seals are reusable . Just remember to use a little black RTV where the heads meet the timing cover to prevent oil leaks .

ok, if your not mechanically inclined then leave them alone.......thats honest my suggestion.

if you are then remove them and do as medeiros suggested ........regular engine paint will not work.

im mechanically inclined, ive done all the work on the car im just looking into it all first, found a few writeups online doesnt look bad i just see people saying it was kind of a bitch with clearance.

so what kind of paint should i use along with the adhesion promoter?

use brake cleaner to get all oil and grease off
use scuff pad so you have some adheision{sp} so the paint sticks
then i would use and acrilic paint or the paint that is made for plastics
if you are going to paint from a gun there is an addative to put in it but dont rember what it is called
paint will stick if the prep is done right
i personal would paint them black cuase any dirt will be really noticable with a diff color

im not too worried about the dirt, i clean my car like twice a week and i detail the engine about once a week, its black so it takes alot to keep this thing clean

still thinking about doing this, seems pretty easy as far as just unbolting the covers, painting them, and then replacing gaskets... rtv between the valve and timing chain covers... and then bolting back on, but can i run into problems with the cam area exposed when the covers are off as i paint them? any other things to look out for?

"im mechanically inclined, ive done ZERO OF the work on the car im just looking into it all first"

i think red would look good.... everythings blacked out minus the cobra calipers which are red so blue wud just add a random color into the mix
