in the fall most towns except bids or offers. a pickup (f250 ) in canton gets 80 an hour. but your on call and have about 1 hour to show up 24/7 when it snows. you get paid 4-6 weeks . i personally do driveways . i did the town of canton in the past. getting paid in a big storm is like hitting a small lottery.

so you just do driveways for yourself? or do you still do it for the town...

i was thinking if i bought a plow truck id go after one of those like 55+ communities... seems like an easy 10-15 driveways and your not searching everywhere... good idea?

i have an 08 150... ive thought about the plow many times... the lease is up in feb andi might have them put one on so i can finance it with the truck when i buy it, but im not sure if its worth the damage to the tranny/ rot to my frame (truck has the 5.4 with the 4 speed) i want this one to last a looooooong time

anyone opinons? is it better/ cheaper to just buy an old 250 with a plow and use it just for that?

first of all i would only buy a fisher plow. they are they best in my opinion for quality and reliablity. a new fisher is about 4500 for your truck plus 300 install.

i would hunt for a used plow for your truck if you wanna do driveways.
if you want to do town or commercial properties you will need atleast a f250. certian towns require this. it all depends on your job too. you have to be available to plow 24/7 when it snows for towns and comm. properties.

if you bought an older truck with a plow for say 5k it will need upkeep and probilly more maintenance than your f150 . due to being an older truck. my truck is older but i installed the plow and the original owner is my buddy so i know of the history behind it.

and for the salt , either way your truck with or without plow will see plenty of salt.

Probably cheaper in the long run to just buy a beater 250 and not fuck the one you wanna keep nice if you're working for the town and such....I've never really seen any of the new f150s driving around with plows, I wonder how well they do, or just toss some weight in the back of the 150 and go, seems like it'd be fine for light duty

f150 is fine for driveways but the state and most towns require atleast a 3/4 ton truck aka k2500, f250, ram 2500

my friend has a 05 f150 with a 7.5 fisher which plow great!

about beater vs. newer plow truck- I am a commercial roofer, when work was slow and I decided to get a plow route last winter. I bought a 90 f250 67k ok body on top rusted underneath. The manifolds were rusted completely to the heads with holes. So I dropped in a 29k 5.8 that I acquired from a friend (score). I got the motor running in the middle of the first storm. Wicked last minute. It was the rustiest thing I every put a motor in. But it payed off the second storm. I have 2gs in it total with 20+ res. accounts in Boston.

Sorry for the rambling, but the truck is on my mind as I get more accounts. I have nightmares that the tranny is going to fall out. Maybe the atf will melt the snow.

But new trucks brake too!!!
