I just got my car back today... I got a new starter put in after mine shit the bed and both starter bolts broke trying to get the old one out. The starter is a hi-torque mini starter from napa cost me $190+ labor to get the broken bolts drilled out of the bellhousing.
So the starter works great and fires my car up now with no problems but for some reason the starter stays on for 2-3 seconds after the engine has fired up and i have let the key go back from start like a normal everyday start-up. Why would this be happening? The guy who did it said the flywheel teeth looked a little messed up from me starting it with only 1 bolt in it... Would that be causing my starter to be staying on for a couple of seconds after the engine has fired or whats up with it? I just dont want something to be getting messed up by starting it when it keeps doing it on every start...
Stop starting it right away. I have seen this manny times when people put the newer starters in their cars. The proper way to change it is to move the starter wire so it has constant power and wire a thinner gauge wire from the solinoid in the engine bay to the solinoid on the starter. Its pretty easy to do, but if you paid to have the starter installed i would pop start the bitch and bring it down to the place ytou had it done and show him how to do it right.
what mike said you are going to mess up the teeth on the fly wheel and burn out that starter if you keep using it bring back until the guy fixes it only way the teeth could possibly keep the starter going if the are that bad and it makes to much contact and the flywheel teeth are getting stuck to the starter
cant really type out what i am trying to say but def needs to get fixed before you keep usiing it
