mark 8

hi, so since im selling my stang i figure ide pick up a nice daily driver for now . i was seriously considering a mark 8, seems like the next best thing from a mustang and a nice cruising car. i was wondering if there are any really bad problems in theese cars to look out for, and what to look for when buying one. im assuming there more reliable than a fox and the gas millage seems alot beter to. let me know your opinions or any other suggestions for cars to look at that would be reliable but not a shit box aka honda. i have 3500 to spend

Tunderbird super coupe. the turbo coupes were older and 4cyl turbos the super coupes were the newer models and were v6 supercharged

I owned a Mark 8

3 words

Air Bag Suspension.

They fail and bags are expensive. However, you can buy t-bird shocks and springs and swap them in and ditch the air bags. I actually sold my Mark 8 with 83K on it for $1500 cuz i didn't want to deal with the bags. If you buy one with bad bags, talk them down and they but the t0bird springs.

Other than that, it ran fine. The 4.6L DOHC idled smooth, tranny shifted fine, car was fast, handled damn nice for 3800 lbs.

I'd try and find an LSC for the 3.27 limited slip, duel exhaust and 290HP rating.

yea, im goin to look at one tomorrow it says it has new air suspension. if it was replaced is it still going to have problems? what can i look for in the car. i know make sure all electronics work, is there anything other problems that car was prone to.the car has around 108k do the timing chains or anything like that need to be replace around 100k. im goin to be driving from boston to tweskberry ect Alot seems like a sick cruisen car and car for the highway and gas would save me alot of money over a fox. i still want a fox bad haha ive looked at a couple but havnt found one clean enuf to have me rreally interested, they al seem like they need to many little things i need a car that just wil drive ATM . i thinken a mark 8 would probably be beter for a daily driver for now. i havnt driven a fox in the winter yet that kinda scares me hahaha. does anyone on here do it?
thanks for the help/suggestions

your looking for a dependable daily driver that gets good gas mileage and can get through the winter.... sorry but a Mark VIII is not the first car I would pick . I commute 74 miles one way and it costs me about 5 bucks in gas . Thats in an 05 toyota corolla S type . Not the most stylish vehicle , but it would be tough to find another car as dependable and as fuel efficient . I also have an 04 Ford Explorer with the 4.6 and it costs me 10 bucks to do the same trip .
I also have driven my daughters 97 v6 5spd mustang the same trip and her car is pretty close to the corolla in gas mileage plus with 4 snow tires it had no problem in the snow and has been very dependable so far .

sorry to say but if your having problems with hondas its not the car its how they are taken care of ...they do have some rust problems but the engine will outrun the body all day as long as its taken care of ...my buddy just sold his latest accord for 4k with 150k ...its still going strong with 158k and gets driven from weymouth to fallriver everyday with zero problems ....if your looking for something good on gas and reliable i would look towards a honda but if your looking for something to go fast and break then ya a ford or gm

if you have 3500 to spend get a decent running 5.0 and have it installed .........then in 2 months you wont be lossing sleep for selling your car and it will run fine .....the 5.0 is a great motor and they have been known to do 300,000 miles ....i had a f250 with a 5.0 in it and when it got totaled it had 320,000 on the original motor ........after i got paid from the insurance company i held it to the floor for 10 minuts then raced a 350 suburban with the f250 overheating and the f250 beat it by a long shot .........

some idiot worked on your motor that doesnt mean you should give up or talk bad about the 5.0
