My check engine light keeps poping on. On cold starts or even when its cold out such as at night leaving work, my check engine light is on. During the day or if my car gets warmed up to operating temp the check engine light will turn off. My buddy said it might be the o2 sensors, but I thought I would ask before doing anything. The car is running perfect other than the light coming on and pissing me off. There is no emissions on the car such as smog, egr, cats...
scan for codes. if its something to do with the egr or any other system youve disconnected dont worry about it. if it is something to do with tps maf or 02 i would fix the issue.
The diagnostic port is under the hood on the drivers side right by the master cylinder . There is a way to do it with a paper clip and you have to count the number of flashes of the check engine light to get the code . It is a pain in the ass sometimes as you have to count the fast flashes with the slow flash to get the code number . It is much easier to go to autozone where they will extract the codes for free ! If not you can buy a cheap one there too .
Im pretty sure that autozone can only scan 96 and up OBD2 cars. but if you go there and pick up a repair manual for like 15 bucks it will tell you how to pull codes and tell you what they mean. Plus they're just nice to have.

Ive gotten a pre OBDII ford scanner at Walmart before for like 20 somethin bux. You can also search online for the way to do it with a wire/paper clip and count the flashes. Make sure you have a quick eye and a quick pen ready LOL
