so i got my car running, and theres really loud clunking noises like metal on metal or something. i am thinking its something in the vauvle train, mable miss adjusted or loose vauvles, but i really dont know. the smogg port in the back of the heads are open but i pluged them and it made little difference. heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEqxoRDsZV8
it starts up and runs fine but sounds horrible lol
yes all stock, i did not do the heads so i would gues they are missadjusted. does it sound like rockers u think. im gona pull the vauvle covers, what is the proper way to instal the push rods and torque down the rockers. first times its ran in a awhile. wana get it ripping again haha
Give me another motor and irun that thing at ned. Tull. A piston flys through the hood lol. This is all I got right now so I gota work with it. I drove it everyday this summer engine neever gave me problems really. It even ran fine with the blown headgasket. The shop musta fed somethinf up. How do I get to the lifters. Do u guys thinks its the rockers or both rockers and lifters. Thanks sory for so many questions just really wana figure this out. I havnt drove it since september
the upper and lower intake plenum must be removed because the lifters are in the intake valley. Then the valve cover and rocker arms must come off. then remove the push rods and the lifters can come out. MAKE SURE YOU PUT EVERYTHING BACK IN THE ORDER YOU TOOK THEM OUT!!!!! Purchase new lifters not used ones. the cam and lifters have special marks on them when the motor is first started up. like a finger print. any more questions shoot me a pm. ive done alot of head gaskets on 302s up to a 428 super cobra jet. do this stuff in my sleep lol. hope this helps

ive torn my 5.0 apart dozens of times and ive never heard anything like this. almost sounds like the cam hitting something or something banging the lower intake. no check engine light and it runs fine...for now lol
so before i tare the lower off would u sudjust jus trying to adjust the rockers. also any info on how to remove and instal lifter. cuz al i did was pull the pushrods out never touched the rockers but idk
just remove the valve covers. you mite have to remove the lower intake though but thats easy. did u install the pushrods in the same place you removed them?

honestly i tore everythig down myself i labeled where the pushrods went, but i sent my car to a shop cuz it got to cold. i got it back everythign was messed up. the heads are the only thing i havnt re done yet. i wish i did when i had it apart. so i mite have to take off the lower the adjust the rockers? or are u talking about the lifters. are u not soposed to beable to spin the pushrods with your fingures, i thought i read something like that . but i could spin all of them . idk if what means there loose or its normal. also i cant get the rear drain plug out to drain the rest of the oil, i can turn it both ways but it wont come out or tighten it just spins
so i took off most of the top end today if anything the rockers where over tightened , i dont think that could cause any banging noises would it? vauvles covers have no signs of anything hitting the inside. im gona try and do some stuff with it tomorow how do i check the lifters, and what esle should i go about checking? mostly like gona take the heads off and do the headgaskets over to
ok so i opened up my vauvles covers and was checken stuff, there was a good amount grime. it kinda looked like there was still coolant in my heads, it wasnt white and as sludgy as when i blew my head gasket but looked funny, hard to see it from the pitchure but the oil looked kinda greenish but not dark jus a tint. i cant tell if its stuff left over from before or if my gaskets is still leaken, doesnt look like enuf to be but idk. . i started cleaning everythingg on one side it looks beter. also this is probably bad but i found theese in my heads just sitting there
does anyone know what they go to, they where just sitting in there one in each head. are they soposed to be on part of the rockers or something? i have no idea i jus know its proly not good at all.
u mean the things i found in my head. ones real dirty in the inside i cant tell if its grime or rubber. i think grime. i got no idea what it is i honestly have no clue if they put vauvle gude seals in, i would assume not , what do they look like? where do they go, sory dont most of the little things. i assume they jus put the gasket on and bolted everything back down
you dont have too do them but its a good idea to since the heads are off. if the heads came off it could be valve guide seals or dowel pins that go into the bottom of the head. It just helps line up the head with the block and gasket

did u ever take the distributor out at all? make sure the oil pump d/s is still attached to the bottom of it, cause if you took out the dist the d/s came with it and fell into the pan and you didnt realize, your pushrods should have oil in them so that could be a cause? it happened to me a couple times but i noticed it before i did any damage
sounds like a junk oil pump so no oil will make it sound like that when you had the car running did u run it without the valve cover on to see if oil was coming out of the rockers?

ya anytime you do any type of head work or removal of any components you should do this, or at least get that oil pump primer tool and make sure the oil is pumping, maybe your oil pickup fell off the oil pump? before you take anything else apart go to autozone and rent the oil pump primer tool, it goes on the end of a drill, pull the dist. and spin the pump to see if its working
my factory oil gauge said i was getting oil presure. so i can run the engine withoyut the vauvle covers on?> yyes i took the dizzy out the first time i tore it down. what does that peice look like. also how do i check for colaspled lifters
dog i told u where shoulda opened the vauvle covers lol, we fixed one thing the vaccum leak. atleast it stayed runnen after that lol but now we have to do it over again anyways. i can fix it i jus needa figure out what the fuck is maken it make noises.

mine was makin the same noises...no oil had a leak never even knew...oil pressure read fine but wasnt gettin anough oil and i thaught i had a broken lifter but it was infact there was no oil gettin to anything
ok so im guessing my top end isnt getting oil, damn to bad i already stripped it down. one head looked like it had good amount of oil on the liftters buts the drivers side didnt seem to have as much by looking at it
