Ford Stock Hits Historic Low

For the third day in a row, Ford stock has fallen to a historic low. Closing today at an all time low of $2.08, it had fluctuated even lower during the day at $2.03. We are nearing “penny stock” status in this week of market turbulence that is getting close to harming the auto industry in ways that we have seen banks destroyed in the past couple of months. We hate to say it, but it appears this trend is only deepening.

General Motors (GM) has also been on the hell-bound ride to ruin this week hitting its historic low of $4.76 per share, a 31% drop in value today alone. To give a scary comparison on where things are right now, Mattel Inc. is worth almost $2 billion more than GM. Motorcycle maker Harley-Davidson Inc., with a market capitalization of $6.83 billion, is worth more than Ford.

If the government doesn't grant the Big 3 the support they are asking for... this country is going straight to hell. (a lot faster at least)

Bottom line is, Ford / GM are taking the steps (although late in the game) to get the right products to the American people. The economic situation of this country is NOT helping... People can't afford to buy new cars. If Ford / GM can't sell new cars, every aspect of the industry is affected... all the way to a dealer's parts and service departments...

If the Big 3 fail... MILLIONS of American people will be affected. Not only those working directly for these companies / dealerships... but all of those working with the hundreds of suppliers... etc.

This grant is needed from the government to allow these companies to continue their product development, but we should also be looking at a Fair Trade Act to put some restrictions on these Japenese companies' competitive selling advantages in our country. Its BULLSHIT, and makes it that much harder for the 'Big 3' to survive.

I could go on... but American people need to start / continue to support the American Auto Industry more now than ever...

Paul I hope you're joking...

In hindsight, its easy to say that "Ford / GM should've seen this coming" and started getting more involved in the 'car market' in the 90's, but the reality is, they were dominating that era with SUVs and trucks and did not do a great job of "predicting" the economic situation that this country would be presently facing..... HMMMMMMMMM..... Forecasting the future of the automotive industry is easier said than done.

Wow....

The AMERICAN auto industry is a whole different animal than Wall Street, and if fails... Everyone loses... Even you Paul will feel a ripple effect.

p.s. - where will you find Ford exclusive parts for your car should you need them?

If the local and state governments hadn't been protecting the auto industry they would not be in the situation they are in now. They have not been innovating and competing with there competition. So what is going to happen in 3 years if we just bail them out not? Im not saying not helping them but just giving them money is only going to make things worse when they fail and owe the government billions.

Everything mentioned in that article has since been corrected or in the process of being corrected... New Management, New Product, and New Labor Contracts...

Its no secret that bad decisions were made in the past, but these companies NEED government help... Again, if THEY fail, we will alllllll lose, and this country will be WAY worse off then it already is.

The money is being requested to help sustain the plans put in place over 3 years ago. Keep in mind that with all of the new technologies and government regulations, it isn't as easy as simply churning out new product whenever they'd like. It takes years to develop these products, and in 2010, you'll start seeing the results of their continuing efforts...

I guess I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone would not support the company that created the vehicle the ultimately resulted in this website being created... Maybe we don't care to see what the Mustang of the future will look like??? Or even if there is one???

Shame.

while i understand it has a ripple effect its reseting the worlds over inflated economy and putting it back in reach of average american working class. There is no way milk should be 4 bucks a gallon, gas 4 bucks a gallon (not no more but it was), average houses starting at 345-450k the average house should b at 150-250k,

and for the ford exclusive parts if ford goes out of bussiness then some company will buy there specs and drawrings and they will build and sell the parts

bad decisions in the past??? how about yesterday when each of the big 3 ceos took seperate private jets to washington d.c to meet with congress!!!!!!! costong each 20k round trip they coulda got first class on any other airline for under 1k!! that woulda saved eash 19k!!!!

why would we support theses companys???? we already supported these companys when we buy there cars and "exclusive parts" ... i say fuck the companys take care of the people first!!!!!!!!!!
