i just fired up my mustang after finishin the turbo install and it was running pretty good idlein at about 1100-1200rpm then it all of the sudden shut off. im running a msd btm and blaster coil. i by passed the msd box and still nothing any ideas? thanks in advance
thats wat i was thinkin when i was in the shower..kinda werid i know but i think the tfi module is the original so i kinda think it was one of those things were you start up a 500hp car for the first time and something stupid happens. ill pick one up tomorrow and see wat happens. thanks
swap the distributor out with a known good one. do a wiggle test on the wiring harness, and make sure your ecm is not toast...also check all the fuseable links near the starter solenoid i fried mine 10 minutes after putting my blower on
do you know why the fusable links would go? i figure the tfi was just old i just want to make sure none of the wiring is bad. also how would i know that my distributor is bad? my car was running fine before it just died which makes me thin tfi thanks for the advice boys
fuseable links can go for manny reasons the car is almost 20 yrs old i dont know why mine went but when i was ripping up and down the road i had blown the fusable link to the ecm about 5 minuets into the ride
if it blows does it fry the ecm or does it save it (thats wat im guessing) thanks mike youve been a big help i hope i figure out wat it is so i can rip it tomorrow
got a distributor from bonz today put it in with my msd box bypassed and it fired right up let it warm up rev it a lil bit then it starts to idle around 2500 so i shut it off and plug my msd box in and then it wont start it turns over but nothing. im thinkin that my msd box might be toasting the pick up in the distributor but its a brand new msd btm box. i tried a different tfi on my old distributor and that didnt work either guess im gunna have to look at my fuseable links. those are the wires that have think rubber around them is wat one of my friends said is this true? thanks
If you popped a fusible link ..that circuite would be dead . It isn't gonna work again after things cool down . You will have to replace that section of wire . Sound like it might be a relay or you have something wired wrong . Check all connections and wires for melting or screws or bolts pinching and possibly grounding out . Get yourself a haynes manual and follow the procedure for testing for spark . You should be able to trace down the problem with out just throwing parts at it . I know on MSD's web site there is a diagnoses section that tells you how to test the MSD box to see if it is working . I'm not good with links ...Sorry !!
