WANTED: 99-04 2V Alternator (not working)

Does anyone have a good alt for sale OR a junk 2V alt they don't want?

I have a noise that i think is coming from my alt. The alt works fine. I think it's a mechanical issue such as a failing bearing. Thing is i don't want to go buy a Ford ALT for no reason.

I want to swap a different alt on and see if the noise goes away. The alt doesn't need to even work. I'll know in 10 seconds if the noise is gone.

So if anyone has a crappy PA aftermarket alt or ford alt that broke i'll take it.

you could remove the belt and spin it by hand, you should feel if its bad or not
even pull side to side and feel for play in the bearings

Did that already. Spun all the bearings and the Water pump actually made a grinding noise.

Have a listen

Water Pump

SO i bought a Ford water pump and replaced it.

Wasn't the problem. Everything else spins freely, even the alt. I took the belt off and started the car and the noise was gone, so it';s def something in the accessories

However, i have some soot residue near my alt and i feel a vibration from it AND smell a faint burn smell coming from the alt.

Here's the noise

Engine noise

I posted this on Stangnet and a few people have replied that their alt's made similat noises before failing.

I'm going to AZ in the AM to have it tested. I have a friend i could try swapping alts with and see if it is the prob, but i can't get to him for a week

Mikefheath, thanks for the offer but the alt is different between the 4.6 99+ and the '95 v6

Its very possible it would only make noise with the belt on under load
while it is struggling to make proper maps and volts

I Agree. I just want to make sure before i blow $200 on a new Ford alt like i just blew $100 on a WP....and then find out it's the tensioner which is a $60 part :(
