Warranty question

As most know my car is under warranty, 500+ components (yep the one that almost 2k.) Whole drive terrain is coverd. I have not dropped my drive shaft yet to confirm my failure, however I have a strong feeling all the play I have in my drive shaft is from my rear end. The problem is writen up on TSB's along with a hard shift from 1-2. I have been told my a tranny guy that if there was play in my tranny that would mean missing a tooth(s), and there would be a ticking noise, which there isnt. Anyways after I make sure the play is in my rear end I am going to attempt to have it rebuilt under warranty. The play is NOT basic ware and tare there is a lot of play, if clutch is pushed in and there is pressure wether it is having no foot on the gas or having it on the gas a little bit it make a clink/snaping noise. Also if clutch is in and I drive or a bump or bumps you can hear it clinking. And if i am under my car i can turn the shaft about 1/4 turn back and forth and you can hear the noise. However the higher the gear the less play there is. It is NOT my U-joints, I inspected them and there is no noticable wear they look perfect, and there it no play in them. So with all that being said if it hold true the play is in my rear end I will call Ford. I am wondering if anyone has brought there car in for a problem like this and the outcome. Do you think I am waisting my time and they will most likly ignore the problem and say that they cant do anything until it breaks or what? Any input will help, Thanks.

Looks like a lot of holeshot if they deny me. Dont want to break at the track therefor must break and fix before october.... MUST race at TASCA...

If you want 1 night run it by my shop in Natick and Ill take a look and see if it would be covered for you and where the noise is actually coming from. I deal with a lot of some bullshit warranty stuff and some real warranty stuff at ford everyday.

Well if you were missing a tooth somewhere you would know it by now. Typically when gearing loses a tooth, and you put it under load...it breaks. A trans missing a tooth wouldn't give you slop...it's how entire sheared gears happen.

With that said, Mustangs tend to have a LOT of drivetrain slop. The t-3650 has it.

You can check for play by jacking the rear wheels up, puttint eh trans in gear and seeing how much you can turn the wheels before the input shaft stops everything from the clutch grabbing. You can also physically turn the driveshaft with the e-brake pulled and the trans in gear to see where the movement is

Typically though, every mustang i've driven has had drivetrain slop. It's worse in lower gears. I need to remember at low speeds in 1st to slowly push my clutch in because if i press fast and take the load off, the drivetrain will clunk back and forth from all the slop.

Most mustangs i've driven have done this to a degree.

HOWEVER, without seeing how it behaves in person, i can't quite say if it's typical or if something else is wrong.

If I tell them I have noise they will fix it but not if i say it was a tsb? Interesting...

Anyways mustang5l5 it sounds like what you are talking about. It is the play that clinks a little when in gear and e-brake is set. I am just worried if it continues nothing good will come. Pitbull ill bring it down a day and we'll take a look. I app it.
