If you want it to handle then keep the 4 banger and go turbo. my friend's racing circle track made some sick power out of the 2.3 n/a so adding a turbo I think you could see 400+ rwhp fairly reliably............
Its time to get with today's technology, mod motor swap. 460/C6 way too heavy and not worth it in the long run. Needing big blocks to make power is a thing of the past, just like carbs. Check out modularfox.com for all the info you need for mod motor swaps. Wiring isn't considered difficult by those that have done it, but they all say its tedious and time consuming.
My buddy will be selling a complete 03 GT hit in the front. There is your mod motor swap right there. With a turbo you could make some serious power out of a properly done GT motor or you could find a cobra motor and put that in instead of the 2V.
The 408 would be good to get the turbo spooling though, but an auto on the brake will get turbos on a mod motor spooling up just as well.
How about ... Gasoline and a match !! But seriously ..... how about a Boss Blocked 331 with eagle rotating assembly .. canfeild heads .. your choice of cam .. With a spyder intake on DFI ... With .. are you ready ... TWIN FUCKING TURBO's ....

That would be pretty damn sick. Keep it under the stock hood would even be sicker........Nothing like a sleeper.
That car would be a nice setup as Mineral suggested. Even a good sized single would be nice on that motor and with the proper piping, coating, a/r housing, etc spool time would be fast too. Hit full boost around 2500-3000 rpms and carry it all the way to redline.
