Somethings wrong with the front end of my Stang.. Please Help

I dont know what happened.. I was making a right turn into a store parking lot and all of a sudden I hear this sound as if metal is dragging on the pavement.. I then quickly pulled off to the side and stopped and took a look underneith the car.. couldn't find anything visually wrong.. The weird thing is I can only drive straight or can only turn the wheel all the way to the right.. but when it comes to turning left it doesn't really turn all that much but only a tad bit and I mean a tad bit, where it's barely turning to the left... I have put my car up on 2 Jackstands on the front end this morning and took a quick look at it this morning as I was already running late for work, but anyways I still couldn't see anything out of the ordinary.. Any tips on what it could be or what it is exactly? Please help.. thanks a million guys.. bret

the first half of your post sounded like just a brake shield rubbing against the rotor? but if i understand correctly you said your car will not turn left?

sound like the steering gear is FUBAR is there any play in the steering wheel to the front wheels? is so locate where it is and that could be your problem

I just took a 2nd look and I believe I have discovered the problem... It looks as if the drivers side ball joint is toast, because it made the control arm dig into the dust shield and thats what that dragging sound was... I will post pics of it later and show you and then we can go from there... Thanks again for the help. praise2

Here are the pics.. notice the ball joint is bad, plus notice the control arm made a gash on the dust shield... Well I bought a new balljoint and I desided also to buy the sway bar links as well.. I got a buddy at a shop he's going to put all that stuff in for me for $40.00 so not bad at all for how things turned out. Thanks guys for the help. I appreciate it

Replace that dust sheild too while you are at it.

WIrebrush all the surface rust off and spray some rust-proofing flat black paint on there

I'd replace both sides. If they are the factory ones they both have been on there the same amount of miles so the other one can't be far behind......

Thats what I should have done 1st time around but didn't have the funds at the time, money was tight for me at that point in time, but I had replaced the passenger side ball joint last summer so its good, then the drivers side ball joint got replaced a week or week and a half ago, so all in all not too bad, but yes your right it's always best to replace both sides at the same time, but it'll be fine, not worried about it. Thanks guys for the help. I greatly appreciate it. bret

It looks like you still have the original tie rods on there. You may want to check them for play. If you feel any play then replace them and get it aligned.

Yes they are original as far as I know, so yes I have to check those as well for any play and if so I will then replace them soon.. I don't plan on driving the Mustang til I resolve any issues I may have with the front end, which kind of sucks but getting her fixed up is one of my priorities. Thanks again for the help

No problem. I think I paid about 75 for both inner and outer tie rods when I did mine. Bought them from O'reilly Auto parts if you have them there.
