gt40p heads vs the price of tf heads a point a guy made for performance on a budget i thought it was a good point makes u think?

What do u guys think??doggy

i did just that and bought the used twisted wedge heads. the seller said they were good and had just recieved them from the machine shop. i did get them still wrapped in plastic as if from a machinist. but after i got them there was more to the picture than what i was told. one head was very weak, and i probably pulled almost all the threads out of it. the other one, half of it's threads came out. 3 valve guides came out, so had to pay for a set of bronze guides, they had to be welded again (my machinist showed me where one had been welded before) to fix what the aluminum bits did when the guides came out and my motor chewed them up and spit them out. had to be milled because they were warped when i got them. so let's see. i paid $750 to begin with. after everything i had $1500 in them. after the last time being fixed i got rid of them and sold at a loss for $1300 but to sweeten the deal i gave my rockers, the new upgraded springs, and pushrods with them. take my hard expensive advice. if you are going to be aluminum heads, only buy new. because if you end up with a bad set and of COURSE the seller won't give you your money back because you were suckered, you were better off spending a few hundred more and having peace of mind.

and i can't agree with someone saying gt40p's + cam + tfs intake doesn't equal more power than TW heads alone. if we are talking about a bone stock motor, and saying that. you're an idiot. maybe all the facts aren't out there concerning what parts are already on the car. it true that TW heads will give you about twice the hp increase over gt40p's. can't dispute that. but to note, they are over twice the price. let's make some calculations:
these are avg's on a stock motor and potential power increase.
TW heads = 70
gt40p's = 35
tfs intake = 20
cam = * now this is where the power can vary from 25 to 100+ (all are street applicable cams)

let's say you add a moderate cam and gain about 50hp. that is so freakin far from being out of the picture it ain't even funny. i've seen dyno graphs of 100hp increase with cam swaps with lift still under .600". lay out of rules of this engagement and we can see how much power can be made.

back to the task at hand. power on a budge. if save the $1100 for the TFS TW heads. you best get the track heat heads. they have the better springs and valve guides that you will want for the long run for less than $100 extra. it will cost you close to $400 down the road to have them replaced.

you'll go from about 215hp to about 280hp on that stock motor. your other stock stuff will choke the heads up. that's your $1100.

let's spend the same amount and make more than that.
gt40p's = $300
comp xe274 $250
used cobra intake $250
used cobra tbody $50
we're only at $850!! and without a doubt is laying down easy over 300hp.
pick up a used nitrous kit for $250 with a 150 shot and you are pounding out over 400hp. now i thought you were talking about going fast on a budget? you're getting spanked.

but i'm reading your minds! you're thinking 19lb injectors can't feed that much power. up fuel pressure from 39 to 45lbs. the gt40ps flow 190cfm. true it isn't the 280cfm which looks good on paper and will support over 500hp. but you are only making little more than HALF that. potential wasted. and the weight saved is the difference of about 5hp to the next car. counting pennies you sure are. 190cfm will support up to 400hp. which optimizes with the cobra intake. and nitrous, especially a wet kit, has the increased fuel and oxygen that you need to make more power, hell, my theoretical budget car just smoked your butt.

now don't get me wrong. i'm not knocking aluminum heads by far. they are awesome. but if you think you are going to have any fun saving pennies hoping to one day go fast, you are more likely to grow out of it or have your car smashed by a cement truck like someone else mentioned before you are actually making any kind of real numbers at the track.

this site has some good info on especially intakes, but also some combos that run all ported stock stuff making like 260-280hp. check out the tech article on street intakes, and in the pictures the section with all the dyno graphs.
