Auto to stick swap

How hard is it to put a stick into an automatic car? What do I have to do besides the obvious? Can I get just the pedals and cut a whole in the firewall for the cable or is it a little more involved then that?

And another question if I were looking for a stock 302 what's the best year to look for?

Its no different than swapping a clutch and installing pedals. The hole and grommet is already there for the clutch cable, its next to your speedo cable. Remove the front seat and steering colum to install the pedals. You may have to remove the h pipe to get the auto out. I can't remember all that you need, you don't need a new computer I know that. You may need the starter index plate and a new flywheel, I forget. I did it back in 99 to my old notchback and it was the best thing I ever did. I never wired up my car so that I had to push the clutch in to start it. There was an in depth write up on the corral about how to do it back when I did mine. It saved me a lot of time and questions. Driveshaft is the same. It took about 4 hours to do mine and the pedals were the longest part. I know I forgot stuff, but if you can do a clutch swap you can do this.

Well there isn't anything in there now so I'm going to need it all. Won't be doing it for a while just want to know what's involved in it.

As someone who made this swap I'll say it's fairly easy and straight forward. There is no cutting or frabricatiing needed. It's just a bunch of little detail parts you have to gather to do it complete and right.

Take the neutral safety switch from the car you get the 5spd from if you can. I think you can also splice some of the current wires in the auto car too. Thats only if you want to push the clutch in to start it. You will be done in however long it takes you to do a clutch and some of the work is done since you said you have nothing in the car now.

I think a pilot bearing would probably work better...the flywheel you need is part #M6375-b302...good luck with the swap and if you need any pointers we can help!...

p.s...usually if you buy a clutch kit it will include a pilot bearing and the clutch alignment tool
