If its a T56 there should be a solenoid for reverse lockout, both the Ford and GM version have one. It sites on the driver's side of the shifter location and will have a plug on the solenoid. About the size of a door lock actuator. You could just pick one up too. The T5 is very light, maybe 60-75lbs. A T56 is much heavier, ~125lbs. You will know the difference when you pick them up. Not to mention a T56 is just a bigger trans than a T5.

If it has the name" Borgwarner" stamped on the case ... It probably is a t-5 . I beleive the later t-56's were made by Tremmec . Unless it's a GM tranny . I think those 6 spd's were made by Borgwarner.
