Edit Post | Quote | Reply 80mm Mass Air Problems --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So i have been having problems with my car hesitating and stumbling when i try to excelerate. My car is a 1990 hatch thats powerdyne supercharged (rebuilt 8psi), 70mm throttle body, 42lb injectors, 255lph fuel pump and a 80mm Pro-M mass air and filter that is on the end of the cold air tube that runs into the fender off the back of the supercharger. I replaced my IAC, TPS, EGR, and fuel filter and it fixed my idle yet my car is still stumbling. So i brought it to my mechanic and he seems to think that my mass air is damaged because the actual mass air box looks to be separating from itself right below where the model # and what not is on the meter itself. So he seems to think i need to replace my mass air. Also he wanted to elimate the cold air pipe that runs into the fender because he said that the mass air is mounted too crooked in the fender and could also be causing me some problems.
So my question is what mass air should i try to get that will mount onto the supercharger with just an elbow so it will fit in the area next to the supercharger and fender wall but not go down into the fender. The space is apox 11x5x8 inch and my Pro-M mass air and filter will not fit in that space so i dont know what to do/ what kind of mass air to look for. Does anyone know what i should do? Should i get another Pro-M Mass Air and stay with it in the fender or try to get a different brand mass air and have him try to make it fit next to the supercharger?? thanks - Jay from Worcester
Leave the cold air feed in the fenderwell . This is a better place for the engine to draw nice cool air from. If it is in the engine compartment you will be drawing hot engine air in and this will only elevate your intake air temps . Which will cause detonation in a forced induction car. The person you talked to might have meant that you should have a straight peice of tubing before and after the meter so as not to upset the air sample that the meter see's . If you think it's the meter than see if you can find someone with a meter calibrated for 42# inj. to try before you go throwing money at it . I think your 42's are a little to big for only 8#'s a boost . Which could be causing your stumbling . My recomendations would be to get it on a dyno to see where your air/ fuel readings are . This could help take some of the guess work out and see if your meter is screwing up or just running to rich .
So much $$$ are we talking to get her on the dyno?? Im pretty strapped for cash so im trying to save a penny where i can if you know what i mean! but thanks
