Would like some Input on MPE racing

Guys,

I had called MPE racing and was told it is $500 to dyno tune my car which to me is a little high for a dyno tune. Are these guys really good with tuning or are we talking a 20yr old with a labtop who thinks he can tune a Ford ECM.

Comments wanted about this shop and there tuning!

Thanks

Mike

years ago my buddy had my cobra dynoed there a 96 car had nothing but problems so Chris refunded his money ....you didnt say what year your car is but if its a 03 and up i would say Pete in NH if its a modular motor 96-01 or i would recommend Mike Freedman if he is still tuning he does tuning so its realible and safe ....some guys just tune to get HP and dont care about drivabilty ...

Mine is a 99 mustang GT with VT comp 302 stroker kit VT comp blower cams and allen supercharger and a lot more done to her. I had some issue with the blower had to send the ECM to allen a few times then he set it to a guy that works for ford to reflash the ECM.

The car runs but I know there more power in her then the 328HP and 410ftlbs she dyno down in North carolina before moving back here to Mass.

Go to Pete @ Performance Dyno in Concord NH. Either that or I have heard excellent feedback on Chris @ XX tuning in E. Hartford CT.

I think Chris @ MPE is a nice enough guy and seems to be fairly honest. I wouldn't want him tuning my car though. After seeing what my buddy went through w/ his 96 cobra when he had it I wouldn't let him tune my car. He will rent the dyno to you though if you get a tuner to come to you.

I'll check out proformance in Plymouth thanks for the heads up guys. I am glad I asked before going there spending $500 and being very unhappy!

Just can't believe that chris is that bad with tuning. Does anyone tell him there having a issue?

This is what I got back from chris at MPE I know you guys said there have been issue but like it said in the attachment below you can't make everyone happy.

Hi Mike,

Well, I have flashed tuned over 50 Mustangs if you included chips then I have tuned over 120 cars. As for someone having negative things to say I dont know. I have had only one person that seemed to have a problem with me. I have fixed more cars from other reputable shops then I can name. I have been chip/flash tuning for over 7 years now and very rarely do I have any problems. All I can say is we try make everyone happy and like the saying goes you cant make everyone happy, So, to answer your question; we flash tune all 96-up Fords with Sniper Tuning software. We do not use chips, just another piece that can fail. Everything is done on a Dynojet 248x and we datalog the horsepower, torque and boost. We have 99-04 GTs with up to 425 rwhp with stock blocks and 550 with built motors. 03-04 Cobras over 500 rwhp. So I have a lot of happy customers and well have many more. You are more than welcome to come by and see how the software works and some dyno sheets to show what we can do. Hope this answers your questions and if you have any other please feel free to email or call me. Thanks, Chris

whats up man this is Notchstangs friend who had his Cobra tuned by Chris ....i did it back in like 00-01 before tuning was big and superchargers were the "in" thing ....i had problems YES he tried to help me out but it was more of running around tossing parts at my car to try and fix problems when all it end up being was the tuner ...the world of tuning has come a long ways from years ago ...with something like your car i would say try Pete in NH ....i rather go to someone who just tunes ...i think Chris is fair sometimes but other times he rather throw parts at a car to try and fix the problem instead of trying to figure out the problem and fixing one thing ...

Hey nice to hear from you. Like you said things have come a long way since 00-01 and that was a long time ago. I have talked to chris by phone and email and he seems like a honest and stright forward guy who is not looking to screw anyone.

Did you happen to say anything to chris? He said he has only heard from one guy that was not happy. I mean all you guys say he is bad at tuning but did you happen to say anything to chris about it? I just want to see which is more ture here he can't tune or these issues are old issue and he is on the ball with tuning now.

Who has gone to him in the past 2 years for tunes? And chris has said he has had to fix other guys work from shops around here which I don't think he is the type of guy to lie about that.

whats up man ...ya when this happened i called chris cause i only made it down the street and car kept stalling wouldnt stay idling at all ...went back to the shop and he made adjustments to the set screws on the TB then said it was IAC valve i think ..well he said he knows for a fact that was it well 80 bucks lata and sure enough still happened ...car had 35k on it was all stock before i did work to it but i know for fact the sensor wasnt bad .....so i took my car back to my mechanic who did all the work for me and he was pissed Chris touched the shit on my motor ....after going back and forth with him he paid Mike Freedman to put a new chip in and burn it while on the dyno but it was a headache going back and forth with him and the dyno and everyone else ...

there are other storys to that some of my good friends have had with him and same thing tossing parts at a car to see if it fixs the problems ....i look at it this way have your car put together then go have it tuned ...some guys say there is a problem so youll spend more money with them on parts that arnt needed ....go read SVTperfomance in the NE section and youll see everyone says Pete or Dez

I hear what your saying all my parts are put on just need a good tune. I my add a kenne bell boost a spare and a snow proformance kit. But thats it so if anything is off its going to be the tune! And to be honest is hard to mess up a tune on a ECM car when you have the software that he has now in his shop.

And to be honest your talking a few years ago maybe when he was starting out. I mean from what I have heard here is all old stuff dateing back sometime. Also I know he said he had a issue with some of the people from this forum becuase he wouldn't throw some money to the site then some of the people on here started to talk bad about his work.

One of our members had his car dyno'd/tuned there last year & after he left they bad mouthed the car. Also another one of our members worked there for a while, gave us insight to the inner workings & let's just say it's a crap shoot.Another member Autotekniks, had his car dyno'd there, put down like 420rwp & then proceded to run a 9-something at NED.Dyno correction factors must have been "off" that day.Anybody that works on high performance Ford products all day, everyday and has to throw parts at it to fix it is more than enough reason to stay away.As far as not thowing money at the site, all Jim asks for is a contribution and as a business you'll get your own forum. Thats not too much to ask is it?

Fuck MPE.

first problem:
Sniper tuning software

2nd problem:
overpriced with horrible experience

3rd problem:
their stupid

Will never go to them for anything

Theire are such better tuners. Dyno Performance in Concorde NH. Pete is awesome!

Stay away from XX tuning. They are all about your money and they don't tune your car to full potential. They tune it just enough to be better but make it so you have to go back to them for a retune and get more money.

You should only go with a SCT tuner. Like Pete at Performance Dyno or Doug at Outlaw Dyno

Do you have firsthand experience with XX doing that? Your one of the first to go against Chris @ XX which is why I ask. The only ones that have bad things to say about him are fox body guys because he doesn't touch them anymore. I know all the turbo guys local to him rave about his tunes. I would probably not go to him because Pete is closer in NH and I don't think there woudl be much of a difference in tune quality. Anyone that goes to XX is always happy which is why I threw them out there.

I actually had MPE say to me that he has had to fix Pete @ Performance Dyno's tunes before because they weren't done right. That was the only time I have ever heard someone refer to Pete's work in a negative light. I found it funny it was from a competitor. SCT software seems to be the one to use unless you get DFI. What the hell is Sniper? I never heard of it other than MPE using it. I think in terms of mustang shops MPE is fairly honest, he isn't a complete crook like CD Performance or Strictly Stangs when that guy was still around. On the other hand I think it terms of honesty that I would take Dez's word on something over MPE's. Dez seems to have a better rep than MPE.

Two totally separate issues. Jim had an ad up for his place and he never paid for it so we removed it. Simple as that.

I had my car tuned there. My car was the one they supposedly talked crap about. From what I understand, it wasn't Chris, but one of his workers talking smack. My car has a TwEECer which Chris is not familiar with. It was running OK afterward, but far from spot on. I can't blame Chris for anything. He spent almost an entire Saturday trying to get it running right. He does seem like a good, honest guy.

Not sure on the Sniper stuff, most places seem to use SCT.

That doesn't suprise. I think his employees are nothing but a bunch of assholes anyway. They think they are so great because they work @ MPE. They can't take messages properly or give them to Chris. In then end if I want a part I don't want to talk to a message taker. I don't know the names of the guys there other than Chris, but they have 0 personality.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the input good or bad. I am glad to see most of you guys said he was a honest guy that is what I got from talking to him. Sniper tuning software has been out for a long time. They use it down in North carolina when I was down there, it is just as good as others out on the market. I know some of you asked about what is sinper!

I do get the feeling that there is some bad blood between some of the people on here from read lol. I will say tuning is not easy at all, my ECM had to go to a ford tech sent to him by the owner of the company I got my blower from. Seeing the chip that was sent didn't work and the 2nd one they sent with a different tune didn't work. I went throw a lot of stuff when I first got the ECM working with the blower.

I know that from talking to chris he has had some cars that he has tuned making some really good #'s but with anything there are always going to be people that think they can get more power which you can if you push the limit of the tune but on the same note doing so can be at the cost of your motor. My motor is built and it can handle up to 600HP with the parts in there. I am just looking to get 400+ at the wheels which from my dyno runs in NC I was only making 328HP. And I know from that, it is from a very bad tune in the ECM so once on the dyno and car running checking the data it shouldn't be hard at all to make 400HP and I think chris will be able to tune the car just fine.

I will make sure to talk face to face with chris he already said I was more then welcome to come down and take a tour of the shop. When I will speak with him I will make sure if he can't get it right he will cover the cost of someone coming in! If I pay $500 and he can't do it then anyone owner of a shop should eat the cost of making it right and pass that 500 onto someone coming in doing it right.

I paid $300 there I think. I didn't need a chip or anything, maybe that's why.

My car left with 416RWHP 407TQ which I was happy about. It did put down more but we backed it off a bit for safety reasons. The only problems I had with it was periodic stalling, loping idle, and hard starting sometimes.

Check this out ----> Dyno Run

well man it seems like you will make your own choice on where to go ....i think reef said it best someone who works with HP ford stuff everyday why do they have to keep throwing parts at a car to make it work ...good luck with your choice and let us know how it goes
