I recently removed my shitty old connectors and want to install some new ones. I read an article about these Kenny Brown Matrix Brace ones and wanted them but they are $300+shipping. I am planning on building them myself but considering about how much of a bitch it will be. The stock only costs about $50-$90 and I have access to a torch and welder. Anyone know anything about these or built any before?
I thought Kenny Brown is out of business due to health reasons. Where did you get this part from?? If from ebay or somewhere else, then make sure it is certified and as far as I know that Kenny DOES NOT sell their stuff over the internet through other afflaites (sp?), only through Kenny Brown. Maybe I am mistaken here. But just a warning about that product being sold elsewhere. But, no doubt that the Kenny Brown stuff is totally awesome!!!
So i decided to build the connectors myself and began today. I bought the stock from Turner Steel for around 60$ and have a decent amount of extra in case i fuck up. Im pretty sure the Kenny Brown ones have the jacking rail attach to the side of the stock rail and decided not to do it that way. My jacking rail was all fucked up from being lifted by it and I wanted to cover it up after I straigtened it out. So I straightened it and cut a slot out of 1" square stock and made it fit over the original rail. Then i made the subframe connectors out of 1 1/2"x.083 square stock and cut some connecting supports with the 1". I tacked all the shit up on the car then cut it down to weld it off the car. Now im gonna add some diagnols and shit but I dont know if I am gonna make the seat support brackets or not cause they may be overkill. I also may integrate my rollbar mounting plates into the subframes for some extra strength and shit but im not really sure. I can always add them later anyway. So now im gonna paint everything under my car silver, put the fuel/brake lines etc. back in and then weld the built connectors back on for good. I think they look pretty badass and should definately provide enough support for now without having a full cage or 6 point roll bar or whatever. Heres a few pics of the build.. The stock.. Ugly rail..
