Stang's on the choppin' block. Getting sold next week possibly and if not, its getting a tranny and a spray job nd getting sold in the spring. Definatly buying a stang, but looking for modular and I prefer a Cobra. Are the 2001's any good? I'm thinking yes, with the amount of money I'm saving due to driving a Hyundai right now, i would be able to buy an 01 cobra out right come spring. yes, no, maybe? whats the deal guys, hit me with what you got.
Yeah, moving up you could say. I was thinking the same thing but I really don't want to take out a loan to buy a car, 01 cobra would be outright where as 03 would be debt for the next few years.
put what money you have down ..and buy a 03-04 cobra much better investment
+2 This is what I should have done ! Yes they cost more , but the 03-04 cobra will hold it's value for along time . Plus look at it this way .... Your not gonna leave the cobra stock and most likely you will want a blower . The internals on the 01 have the shit powdered metal rods and hypertectic pistons, but have a steel crank ( go figure ) . So your gonna want to forge it to make the sickboy power . That costs lots of $$$$$. The 03-04 has it all ... 6 speed tranny , all forged short block and a blower to boot . The only thing wrong for you I see is the insurance ... That payment alone would cost as much as a fox stang .
03/04 cobras are coming down in price. You can get them now for low 20's and its only gonna keep dropping. 01's are mid teens and still dropping too. The 6 speed is nice, interior is the same as 01 and the 03 bare block is 80lbs heavier, then add the blower and you have a heavier front end on a car that prior to 03 was already front end heavy. The 03/04 heads are better than the 01's in their exhaust port design too. You can buy 01's now w/ good mods and a T56 already for 15-16 grand. Forged shortblocks are being sold on svt performance all the time for 2500-3500 with better pistons and hardware than the 03/04 and the lighter and just as strong aluminum block.
What do you want to do with the car? Road racing buy the 01. If you just want to do a couple mods and go have fun buy an 03/04. Wanna do a nice turbo setup its your choice but the 03/04 gives you a lot of parts you don't need that you would have to try to sell.
Buy the cobra u can afford to fix. Don't let anyone kid ya, u start modding any of them, they will break. Even though the 03 has forged internals, the clutch, and especially the indepent rear say good bye. Don't get me wrong the 03s are nice, but at over 3800 lbs, it needs a diet. Remem some 03s have "HEad tick!" u don't want one that has had the pass head off.
I say go with an '03-'04 cobra also.. more bugss have had the time ot be worked out and yes like scotty said if you are driving it normal on the street do the 01 but if not id go for the '03 or '04 from what i have heard and seen they tend to hold up better. this way when you give it the beating of its life on video at a meet you wont embarrase yourself :))
