HURST Boot plate with stick problems?

Went to install my Hurst boot plate today with no luck. for some reason my shifter is about an inch too far to the passenger side of the car to fit into the plate opening. i recently installed a ford racing cross member with the Energy Suspension bushings, everything looks correct. The crossmember can only go in one way, everything looks straight under the car. i also have a Hurst SST shifter installed, i know its taller than stock but why is it way to the right?? anyone else have this problem. im using jegs p/n 530-538-0036, any input would be apreciated.
