Im getting rid of a megasquirt in favor of a 03 cobra ecu with a sct tune. The problem is the ecu won't take the tune. The assumption is that it previously had a tune or chip in it and needs to be re flashed. So i have 2 questions..
1) Will and can ford dealer re flash a ecu that's not in a car?
2) Does any know a Ford tech that can do it?
* im not looking for a freebie, the 2nd option is if the dealer is being stubborn about it not being in the car.
* I have the vin of the car it came out of if that helps..
i believe it has to be in the car... not sure tho it us going to cost a good penny to get reflashed.. so your best bet is find someone that works for ford that will do you the favor for cheap money thats what i did
if i recall right ford wanted like $175-200 to reflash my 04gt
you will also need the vin for the reflash... all they do is type in the vin into a laptop and connect it to the obdII port connect thru wireless internet and download the program to your car

That would be fantastic, like i said i no problem paying. Just getting the car to the dealer would be a royal pain in the ass so if i can avoid it that would be fantastic.
Just imagine this rolling thru a dealer shop, i can envision all the tech stopping and saying what the fuck is this!! lol
Well Ken came down ( awesome guy by the way) and it communicates but will not accept any programming from the sct or the ford tool. So im trying to hunt down a known working 03/04 cobra ecu. Anybody got one by chance :) lol
Im definitely glad i met him, he's trying a few things with ford tech support.
WHEELS- I dont think theres any modules missing, we thoroughly went thru the diagram, i have the ccrm, im not running fpdm. Think you could take a pix of what your talking about and text it to me? Maybe it's something that was overlooked. Thanks!
BB-Reman right? If i can't come up with any solution by monday im going to drop it off there. It's going to take 7-10 business days and at this point patience isn't one of my virtues..lol what's bothering me crazy is that i dont know 100% that it's the ecu, everything points to it but as we all know that small/stupidest thing will make a computer go haywire.

I've been friends with Ken a long time. He is a pretty good guy, just don't expect him to on time for anything!

No worries dude, I lost mine for 18 months when I was younger and had no responsibilities and that sucked. Just gonna go to Taunton tomorrow and have mine checked out and remaned if need be and go from there. At least I'll know if that doesn't fix it then I can start process of elimination.
i did a lot of looking around, modular fords had a conversions section that has a ton of good info. im going to bba reman to drop it off today and go from there. I appreciate the help thus far! ill keep ya updated
UPDATE: After patiently waiting to hear from BBA they finally called and said it was fucked beyond repair, or rather not worth repairing cost wise. So I found a 04 MACH 1 ecu that was delivered to my door this am so after work, hopefully I can get this fucker to start finally!
Well it didn't take the tune so we went back to the drawing board and unplugged the ccrm and it accepted the tune. Why that is interfering is beyond me! I know these things were common issues so I don't know of it's bad or what, it's doing some whacky stuff like turning the ac clutch on and weird stuff with the fuel pump. Anybody happen to have a known working constant contr relay module. Lol
It fired up finally! It has a few minor bugs but come thursday night it should be buttoned up and ready to go to the dyno. Like the saying goes when you assume you make an ass out of you and me. Well lesson learned (again) when buying used parts always inspect thoroughly!
I always solder unless if just not feasible, it's soldered and heat shrinked anbd starting to wrap it up. Gotta get some more loom and and it's good to go!
No shit! Small world, he's a good dude. Knowing him for about 15 yrs. He just had baby actually. He works at precision sound in dedham, i don't see him much anymore, the whole life thing get's in the way. lol Are you from the dedham area?
Ya but more or less just Supervise lol ....when i was younger i did alot but its starting to take its toll on me so ive been taking it easy for past 2 years or so ....
ya Tim was a good shit to they both got hired at same time then moved on to work for my buddy at the Dedham best buy ..
Cali still have a mustang ? last i heard he had something that was done up nicely
He had a MINT 92 (i think) with a 351, T56 etc.. it was probably one of the nicest/cleanest stangs iv'e seen! He sold it a few years ago, it;s for sale again, been on craigslist recently.
UPDATE: Got the harness back in, nose on and little bugs worked out, so i think anyways. lol So now it's gotta trailered to Dez and we'll see what happens...
Well unfortunately I bought the tuner from him and he did the base tune to turn the pats off and some other stuff and im pretty sure he locks his tunes so im pretty committed at this point.
Iv'e heard mostly good things, their customer service isn't the best thus far. So either they are always really busy or simply don't really care. Time will tell i guess..
Some facts about Dez. His customer service is atrocious and his tunes are mediocre. Theres a reason why most people end up at Performance Dyno with Pete. He tunes them more reliable and with less hassle. For a mod motor Pete is the only one around worth going to. Dez may be good on fox bodies, but he isn't up to par on the mod motors.
I'm getting skeptical to be honest, he was wicked cool when I went there and got the tune and he spent the going thru what I needed to know and such. I've called for input on a few things and the service was nit the best, I'm hesma busy dude and all I did was buy a tuner from him and say I'll be back in a few weeks with the car and that was like 3 months ago. So I'm gonna call them tomorrow and go from there. I've heard nothing but great things about Pete at performance in NH.
I did get to take the car out today, the new alternator I put in last spring is junk so luckily I found one and and it's good to go. After putting the alternator in it I took for a cruise and it runs pretty good. I put about 30 miles on it, just putting around of course but albeit it was still nice to drive it.
Will do man! Hopefully it's soon. I really never got to see what the new motor is like from last winter because no one wanted to tune it. So I'm pretty amped..
I don't understand all these horror stories at Dez. Sure everyone has a different experience, regardless of where you go. My personal experience, I like dez better. I've had numerous cars worked on and tuned there with zero issue. The car I own now was tuned by Pete and it runs far from perfect. Starting issues, constantly throwing a lean code, chugs/misses/bucks on occasion at a normal cruising rpm. There's always two sides to every story. Not at all a hit on Pete, because I have no clue who he is, or how he runs his business, only saying I've had better experience with Mike.
Being in business for myself I know that no matter well you treat people and how hard you work at doing things right there will ALWAYS be people that will be unsatisfied. I spoke to Mike this morning and I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm heading up there a week from today and we'll see what happens.
