Name is Kyle, I live out in Warren, RI. Been messing with fox Mustangs since back in 98 when I was only 13 and picked up my 90 LX Hatch. As a result of a 5.0 mustang being my first car I resorted to finding a winter beater which led me into the world of DSM's.
Over the Years I built a 306 for the mustang (eagle I beams and JE/SRP pistons) with a set of AFR 185 heads, TFS intake and comp 101200 cam. Good enough for 314rwhp & 327rwtq and 12.50@110 on motor (3,273lbs). I then started to get really interested in the DSM/Mitsubishi platform and ended up building a stock motor GT35R Plymouth Laser AWD that has gone 11.02@134.9 (3,076 lbs full interior on 245/40/17 Sumitomo tires).
Recently with some advances in adapter plates and technology in the Mitsu world, GM trans adapter plates have become readily available in the Mitsubishi 4G63 Mitsu turbo engine allow for mating GM th350,400 and powerglides in RWD platforms. With my experience and love for the Fox chassis, it was a no brainier that I was going to put a mitsu motor into a notchback. Most of the world will not understand why I am doing this since V8 power is great but something about taking 122 cubic inches to the 600whp range is fun to me.
Feel free to throw up and input, bad or good lol I don't expect this project to take a warm welcome around the mustang community at all anyway haha
My 90 Hatch-
The Notch Project-
The DSM @ Summit Motorsport Park in Norwalk, OH this summer-
Thanks, yes I still have both of these cars. Whith the hatch being my first car as a kid, that will not be going anywhere. Initially I had it getting ready for a Pro charger D1 ( 1 3/4" long-tubes, 185cc heads etc) but I bought the Laser instead of a blower. The Laser with the stock turbo, Apexi S-afc, boost controller at 15psi and a full exhaust went 13.4@105 first day ever racing so I was hooked. Added a front mount intercooler and DSMLink tuning program and 550 injectors and it went 12.4@115 @ 25psi.
welcome to the site...aint gonna lie your project isnt something that id personally do but its a good concept light and make huge power best of luck dude
I understand this thing will not even be close to anyone in the Mustang community's cup of tea but I am excited to see what we can do.
I doubt anyone here has seen this but this is the only other 4G63 swapped Mustang that is running and has made a pass. Car is a built 2.0L with a GT35R, th400 trans and a 50 shot to spool the turbo to get on the converter. I should make a bit more torque with the 2.3 which should make for better response and launches.
to each ther own i guess but i think i threw up alittle a 4 banger import automatic in a mustang imports dont belong in a mustang peroid and autos dont belong in anything except a full blown trailer queen race car ill say good luck but being a true blue ford fanatic i wont say i like it or even support it but welcome
not being an asshole but thats about as gay as i thought it would be fast tho i couldnt listen to that swarm of bees under the hood american cars are american car they should sound nasty and go fast that sounds like crap sorry i knew id hafta start the drama
It's all good guys, no one is going to hurt my feelings I know I will not please many people with this. This is what I see as hot rodding... Strong powerful engines in good chassis. Some people will like it and give me support, some will tell me I could have gone faster with a v8. If we all built the same things everyone would have nothing to complain and talk shit about lol

Alright i just watchd that video and all i got to say is wow! Thats pretty fast but i would personally keep a foriegn engine with a foriegn car and domestic with domestic....

How about putting that engine in a Tacoma?
i agree with marc and that would be a nasty little truck, and its different strokes for different folks lol i most definitly would rather see it as a 5 speed tho
I could have chose some sort of Import variant, It would have been something like a Conquest or Starion. My friend Matt swapped one into an E30 BMW, used T56 trans and went 10.70 his third trip to the track. I am a Mustang guy at heart so it was an obvious decision. Cheap and quality well working suspension parts made these a no-brainer to me. Tubular A arms, adjustable control arms and things like that all have to be fabricated in the DSM world so it is nice to be able to jump online and buy them wherever you want.
The nice part about this is I am using a V8 K member so if I ever want to throw a small block back in it will be simple and I have more than enough of those hanging around. As much as people will hate this, I am a Ford guy. In my Family we have- my 90LX, 92LX, father has an 87 GT Vert, mom drives a 2010 SHO that my father traded his 04 Lightning in for. This is my 7th Fox project, just had to try it.
like brian said ....fast is fast ....stick or auto .....rwd or fwd or awd .......fast is fast
i look at it like this we share the same hobby ..........if everyone did the same it would be boring ....good luck .......
an auto with boost will work alot better than most think ...... the turbo works best under a load .......auto enables that better ......
stick is the way to go imo on street for the fun factor ....but in a race appliciation a built auto transbrake ...ect consistency would be the way to go .....up to you
thumbs up for being diffrent

I am not quite sure why you assume that? My Laser has 134k miles, 100% stock longblock (added L19 ARP headstuds, stock hadgasket, Eliminated balance shafts, beehive valvesprings and cams) and I have been running 11's in the car for 4 years (3 different Turbo's - small16G 11.8, 20g 11.7, and the 35R 11.02). This car has seen 25+ psi since 2005 with the max of 33psi and it has not sipped a beat. DSM's owned by people who know what they are doing are not the same as kids hacking them together.
The only things I have broke are- trans synchros, and transfer case output shaft and broke a throttle body elbow weld. That is over 150+ passes and 15,000 street miles since my owning the car. This mustang with a built trans and 8.8 should be pretty damn strong.
props for being different, I like to keep it domestic, but I does get boring after awhile. I've always wanted to see someone put a turbo diesel in a fox just for the hell of it. lol
its gona be sick and fast is fast im just an import hater so it kills me to se a fox with an import drivetrain same as when i see one with a gm driveline and autos are not my cup of tea but then again i dont want ar have a desire to own a full blown race car to each there own id still like to see it done seems like you do good work and technically its still a mustantg so its still cool i prefur this swap over like an ls swap should use a ford tranny tho c4 c6
The only reason for the GM trans is because the only adapter plates made for these engines use the GM bell-housing pattern. I could use the ford to gm adapter but that's just another part to add to the mix. There is a 93 RX7 with the Mitsu swap using an AOD which goes low 8's but I am not sure exactly what adapter plates he is using.
