anyways i work on a few of these one i work on has 206k origanal motor tranny was don at 125k there realy nice cars if you dont beat on it and do regular maintaince it should easily last another 100k miles
transmission is the main thing there know to go . mine only shifts into overdrive once and awhile. it burns a shit ton of oil. it has 128k on it i believe. i always said i would luv to have that car wen it was brand new it seems like it would pull decently too. the front end makes alot of noises, mainly clunking. but i gota say all ive ever really put into it was oil changes, extra oil, and a alignment.
i was a ford tech for about 7 years..........prior to nissan, prior to my now job. check the tranny fluid........if its brown run!!!! also make sure oil changes have been done.........i've done alot of warranty work on these cars back then. the alternators on these with the 24v 3.0 suck to do also honestly i would stick with a honda or toyota, maybe a maxima.
The ones with the 3.0's arent bad. My brothers got one with 136,000 runs like a champ. Its the 3.8's you gotta worry about. The 3.8 is notorious for head gaskets.

thats why my dd is a honda good on gas and reliable

yes the 3.0 2v is a great engine , the 3.8 has been discontinued since 95 -older style taurus............the 3.8 was in the mustang a bit longer but had problems aswell. not as often though. i was doing 3.8L head gaskets and engines on those every fucking week!!!
Keep the tranny fluid clean and full. Do all the maintenance and you should have no issues. They are cheap cars to maintain and they aren't too tough to work on. The 3.0L single overhead cam motor is as reliable as any import motor. You do need a special tool to do the rear brakes on a rear disc tauruses though. I have a 2000 and I have no complaints with it.
Just don't beat on it, its not made for that. Its meant to be a daily driver car. Its not a V8 mustang/camaro that can take abuse.

i've never seen a taurus do 300k or even 250k..... it was common on maxima's.
i work on one with 206k and counting still runs mint and is driven over 100 miles a day but its a 2v i know it will make 300k there last taurus was a 91 and it was junked at 292k origanal motor 2nd tranny but they take very good care of there cars on a side note a guy we work on his truck just came in with a 2008 f150 4.6 alreddy had 128k dam no offense mark but imports suck dude lol my buddies 04 tacoma just had to have a new frame fuel lines gas tank leaf springs complete front end frame was a recall but still was 3000 worth of work it only has 60k miles pos, my buddies v10 5 speed f350 just flipped 280k and its a work truck wow i kinda rambled on for awhile lol

i was comparing taurus's to maxima's... i worked on fords for 7 years and worked on nissans for 7 years prior to the mbta....... i'm going on experiance and taurus's will not outlast maxima's ........ the 2v 3.0 is a good engine but no comparison to the nissan v6.
yes the 4.6 and 5.4 last allot of miles if they can keep spark plugs.... i worked on limo's and cab's with over 300k at the dealer.
also the tacoma's do have rust issues but the engines run for ever and the rust problems have been resolved since 05.
