it all depends on how longits been since the deposit and time of deciding he did not want it.....i would say keep 250-300 and give him the rest. sounds like you killed a whole day with this deal.

I'd keep half it's a decent amount and for now on tell them it's non refundable that's how I'd do it but let him know 100 ain't gonna cut it I'd say 200 and he can have $ back
the deposit was 400 the total of car was 3900 plus 50 more to deliver, it cost 100 bucks in gas, so i was eating 50 already. he is coming down tomorrow, i also had to throw my buddy 100 bucks to borrow a truck and car trailer and fill his tank, so theres 200. gone and this kids step dad expects me to eat that loss, i figure i give him 50 bucks of his deposit back for he wasted a full day of my time where i coulda been making money. sound fair to anyone else?
how old is this kid? seems like he is young if daddy is still telling him what to do. If he is under 18 ( or lied to you about his age) you can't legally enter a contract with a minor so you will lose if they take you to small claims over the money or get the cops involved, hopefully this isn't the case. The best thing might be to do what you can to get him out of your hair if you suspect he might be a little young and a problem could come out of this by the parents. keep some cash for time & fuel and hate to say it but take a loss.
If he isn't a kid and is just wipped or you what to take the chance then I would do what he said keep a hundred for your time and take out for your fuel/expenses so atleast you don't have a loss. Tell him this is the price of jerking people around and too take this has a lesson. I would make sure in the future the buyer figures out his own pick up unless they are paid in full and agree on a delivery and pay for it, or atleast 1/2 up front. also make sure to tell buyers up front the deposit is non-refundable and it's in writing so there is no ?. I have done this before myself because people will try to screw you every chance they get. best of luck.
for a 3900 dollar car why bother taking a deposit and offering to deliver ? maybe if it was a big sale like over 7k then maybe offer delivery but for such a small amount not worth it
how much time was there between you getting the deposit and the delivery??? with dealers its 48 hours and you loose your deposit........if it wasted an 8 hour day and cost me 150 i would atleast keep 300......give hime back 100 dollars.

i think you did the right thing...another 50 would have been better for you but it is what it is.....craigslist deals aren't always profit and sometimes can be giant headaches......but think of all the money you made in the past so lesson learned right?

The problem with this is he could summins Tim to small claims court and possibly get his deposit back.......So i think he did the right thing.........A day in court where this buyer is from is another wasted day .......far away.

sorry man that sucks. what a bunch of shit drama, glad you kept your cool though. selling stuff can suck balls, I know I went through a crappy dragged out deal myself. best of luck on future sales but I find for every one asshat there are 10 decent people who follow through a deal.
