So, my DD is a 1992 accord on wednesday I parked it and let it sit till yesterday go to start it nothing. Craanks over fast sounds like it wants to but nothing. So I pull a plug wire and notice the alot of oil had leaked down the cylinder of the plug. so I cleaned all the oil out of the cylinders and replaced the plugs started right up. Drove the car 35 miles no problems got home parked it 2 hours later started a little rough then drove it a mile or so let it sit for 2 hours now it wont start again. Its getting spark from the coil and spark to the plugs and out the plugs getting gas to the cylinder I've even tryed the starting fluid trick with still nothing. My only guess now is it might have a blown headgasket since I add antifreeze to it reguraly and their are no leaks in the system. And now it gets spark and gas but cant acheive compression or the cylinders are getting wet with antifreeze not allowing it to start. Any ideas on my problem or what I should check next. Thanks!
could be your head gasket, if it runs and shakes, hows the oil look (milky?) and when it ran did it smoke at all. It seem weird that it wont start tho for a heak gasket
How many miles ? Has the timing belt ever been replaced ? You say it gets spark out of the plug and is getting gas .... You still need compression to help with the combustion . Check for compression .. if you don't have access to a tester have a buddy plug the spark plug hole with his finger or something to cover the hole and crank it over . SHould here a good woosh of air . If nothing then thats your problem .
Went to check oil and it was so low i could barely see it on the tip of the dipstick, so added some in but it looked good. Not sure if what I was seein is what i just poured in. The car has 174000 and checked the belt and it was still intact will try plugging the spark plug hole with a rag to see what happens. And snakebite explain your dizzy conclusion please.
Thanks for the offer ED. Just rechecked oil and its fine , my friend helped me check for compression and it had plenty? So, the plugs give spark out of the motor but still connected to the wires and I've sprayed starting fluid down the intake and still nothing.Any ideas If I can't figure it out by tommorow after work its off to my mechanic.
While it wasn't a honda .... had a similar mystery with a freinds 350 chevy . It would run sometimes ,but after warming it up it would just shut off . Checked all the basics and it all checked out ... had spark , compression , and fuel . THought the timing might have jumped , but was spot on . For shits and giggles we tried another distributor with the coil that was on the original distributor and same result . So not wanting to give up ... we swapped the coil next and it started right up !! Has been running ever since . So it would seem to be possible to have spark , but if it is'nt strong enough then it will not fire even with starting fluid . You have spark ... but is it a bright orange or just a little blue spark .
Could be a coil , or like snakebite said ..the dizzy is bad . Also the timing belt is tight , but does it still have all the teeth still on it . Could have lost a couple and caused it to go out of time . Just try swapping the coil and see what happens .
