I also have the benifit of when auto body suck i do service work and when that pisses me off I do auto body, and when i am really frustrated I have my little ham bone helpers do the sucky stuff and i have chip time.

You don't HAVE to go to school. People who say such things are being ignorant. If you posses a useful trade (or have access to learn one), go for it. You won't be paying off your rape tuition fees 20 years from now. Obviously yeah, some jobs require degrees and I'm not trying to bring down anyone for furthering their education, good for them. But you're not destined for failure if you don't go to school. What are you interested in?

agreed you dont have to go to school but there is no doubt that going to school will not have any negative consequences... and if you make a reasonable decision that fits your own needs financially as to what school to go to you can pay for it as you go... umass or any other state school...

if your sureyour going to go into a professional field that needs a degree then more expensive private specialized school are still a good value because you may invest 200 grand initially, your starting salary is significantly higher and increases exponentially

in this economy it is stupid not to go to school. there are no jobs out there. thats not being ignorant its the truth.. no sense in making 8 bucks an hour hoping that when the economy recovers youll land a trade job paying well. neither of my parents went to school and my father was a self exployeed electrician. the economy took him out and he had 40 years experience. hes taken a drastic pay cut and is at will of someone else, which as a 63 year old guy who hasnt worked for someone in decades isnt working well.

if you could walk out with a diploma into a job that was paying decent and there were signs of it being stable and having growth potential then i would absolutely do it. but in this economy there is no doubt you HAVE to go to school. what else are you gonna do.

yukes not ignorant hes dumb

-- and to answer the question im a student if you couldn't tell... but i also started a boat bottom painting/ maintenance company and work in a Benefit plan admin place

i fucking agreed with you that you dont have to go to school... im just saying that in this economy.... its in your best interest.... if you have a skill that can carry u through it... go with it.. but can going to school to further improve your skill hurt you? not in the least....the ignorant thing to do is not do anything about improving your own situation...

you wana be a cop... so what if the industrys bad right now? go to school for criminal justice... if the economys still shitty go to grad school... you dont HAVE to go to school...

but i mean if you wana drive a fucking fox body all ur life .... go ahead be ignorant and sit on your ass vs tryin to improve your education which will only open up more oportunitys to you...

you wana be a cop? whos gona get the beter job the guy who went into the force outa highschool or the guy who has a criminal justice degree? think about it...

theres nothing wrong with furthering your education, people who are ignorant wouldnt realize that

and il take that award... read and realize when somebodys agreeing with you but stating there own opinon on the matter....

going to school cannot hurt you... you spend ffuckin 40 grand a year to school... but guess what.. in the long rung your living in a nice ass house driving a nice ass mustang... because you made the sacrifices and are earining a larger salary...... not driving some shitty as fucking peace of shit

Lol, get upset. I never called anyone in this thread ignorant before my last post (which was joking with you, by the way.). I stated PEOPLE WHO SAY YOU HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL ARE BEING IGNORANT. Now did anyone in this thread state that you HAD to go to school. Nah, not at all. What I said was a joke. I went to school. Cool. Whatever people do cool, not my problem.

hahaha atleast you're honest.^^^
Whats wrong with foxbodies? If i wanted an sn95+ I'd have invested more $$ and have one. Not what I wanted. I have another car to drive. My parents had their generation of muscle car and I have mine. I remeber seeing these things rip around at a young age and had a thing for them.

If being a cop is what you really want to do, go for it, or 20 years from now you'll sit and think about "What if?". If cost is an issue check out the community colleges, a lot of people I went to school with did it this way..go to the CC for 2 years, work all you can and save save save and then tranfer to where you really wanted to go(or just stay at the CC..a degree is a degree, no matter where it came from). Try and find a criminal-justice related job to work while you're in school even if its a small few hours a week gig, one of the main things employers look for is EXPERIENCE. If you pick up the classifieds section thats probably the most common word in the mix. You can't exactly run around town putting people under citizens arrest for experiences sake haha. And in the mean time stay the fuck outta trouble all you can :). Talk to your schools guidance counselour, they'll be more than happy to help you out with what you want to do. If you have the chance speak to a few people in the field, find out what your best route is. Even if you change your mind after a bit of school, and decide it's not for you, what have you hurt? Nothing, gaurenteed to have learned atleast a little. Next year something could turn around with the lay-offs and etc and you'd already be on the fast track.

I'm a licensed appraiser too. Went through the classes, took the tests, passed everything and got my license only to apply to 33 different autobodys and insurance company's and not get a single call or email back.

So, now I'm a licensed Auto Damage Appraiser with no experience in the field other than school time and couldn't find a job...

I work at Worcester State College Campus Police Department now and love it... Its weird how the world works some times.

I'm an appraiser too. Only place that will hire you is Progressive or Liberty Mutual and they don't pay much for no experience, maybe 40K a year. No good company is hiring right now anyway. Hanover is, and always is, but there is a reason for that.

Don't know what you guys are talking about with shops not hiring. Herb Chambers in Braintree and A-Z in Cambridge are always hiring.

They don't quit, they get let go. Just ask their idiot manager there from Rhode Island with no MA appraiser's license. He tried pulling that on me once and I laughed at him. At least where you are the manager has a clue.
