They're generally overpriced hardware, with a poor operating system that has compatibility issues. Sure you can dual boot windows... but then you're paying for two operating systems, and twice the compatibility issues. Unless you're doing alot of photo/movie editing don't waste your money.
no viruses is a plus for the mac. Ive used both and it really doesnt make much of a difference to me which i use. if your thinking about getting one just do it, they are nice laptops.

Because macs are becoming more and more popular there are becoming more and more viruses for them. The point of a virus is to attack large groups of people, the mac community is growing, this isnt rocket science lol. As far as dell you're going to run into the same problem that Turbo69 said, dell sells 2 things: 1) lost cost crap or 2) far to expensive crap. For example I built my own computer (it's kind of what I do) and it cost me roughly $1200 if I were to buy a similar machine from dell FIRST it wouldnt have windows XP on it it would probably have something gay like windows 7 but secondly it would have cost somewhere around the $2000 range +shipping +software. So idk, if you know nothing about computers then just draw a name out of a hat. If you know what you're doing build it youself. Laptops are slightly harder so you might have to buy something from a manufacturer such as Dell. Your best bet would be to go to Bestbuy (in NH pref.) and buy a laptop w/ a warrenty. No one wants to do this but I used to work at circuit city and they actually are worth it if anything ever happens. Just my $0.02

Ok, i liked your input but now i'm questioning why dell is crap? I have had dells over the years and no problems. And why do you say windows 7 is gay? Just curious.
dells are a very reliable computer and windows 7 has a much better virus protection then past Operating systems, macs are becoming mre popular due to less viruses but because so more ppl are trying to create viruses to ruin that os, i would stick with a dell because dell has a very good insurance plan for there laptops, macs do to but dell has just a few more, either way if u get a mac you will have a good computer, or if u get a dell with win7 u will have a good computer, its just ur choice, for looks and technology tho u could get a alien ware laptop and be amazed with ther stuff

Dell sells computers as "new" with refurbished parts. They also put too good of operating systems in systems that cannot handle it. Dell is the only company I know that does the refurbished thing but as far as putting advanced operating systems in systems that arent powerful enough well almost all companies do that.
whatever you buy, get the extended warranty. I bought a new HP a little over a year ago and tried to save some $$ so i didnt get the warranty. sure enough a month after the store warranty was up the hard drive shit the bed. food for thought...
i have an hp for school its nice and quick 4g ram but it has vista im just starting to have a couple wierd things happen after a year nothing terrible though.
to be honest. macs are terribly over priced and you really do not get much hardware for the money... they are cool looking but nto worth the money. the compatability issues alone if your using for work/ school is a bitch
the virus issue -- there are so many viruses for the windows os because people hate bill gates and microsofts monopoly (which can be argued as a natural, or good, monopoly because if we all had diferent os's this forum wouldnt even exist) so now more people have mac's and people just want to be dicks and make viruses for the hell of it
they make a hell of a cell phone though (that i wish i had ahah)

Any laptop you buy..after 2 years, it seems it's outdated. I don't know how much the Macs cost vs. a dell or HP or how they stack up in performance..I'd just go to Best Buy or one of the stores and play around with a few different ones see which ones best for ya
ihave had a couple mac and would NEVER buy anything else
yes they are a little more expensive but it well worth the money! 1 of them that i have is like 4-5 years old and it runs way better than any windows based pc
i love my macs. i mad the switch 2 years ago. i now have all mac. i have a mac book pro, an older mac mini and i just went and got the new 27 imac with the magic mouse it is so sweet.
It all depends on what you want to use the computer for. If you are getting a laptop i would definitely get the protection plan, i work at best buy and we get laptops back all the time. If you cant diagnose and fix it yourself it gets expensive fast. I built my computer and use windows 7 on it because that fit my needs. What are you planning on using it for?
