I am about to buy tires for my 86 coupe. I am going to be running 5 lug cobra r 17x9 front and back. The front will be 11" 93 spindles, the rear will be a lsc disc. I want to run 275 40 17s out back but am worried it will rub. The fenders are not rolled. On that note, has anyone used a roller on a good painted fender?? I've heard of heat guns with rubber mallets, special clamps, and obviously the eastwood roller. What do you think?
I am going to give it a go because I already have the rear end with gears. I am going to keep an eye out for a 94-98 disced rear any way just in case. Thanx
i run the mickey drag radials 275/40/17 but i got the 10.5 rims in the back andhave my rear end lenghtened 3/16 on each side.im gunna run a 295/45/17 this year
me and my dad rolled 93fox's ^^^ rear quarters really slowly with a baseball bat...i'm pretty sure he hasnt had any problems because that was a few years back now.
LSC is 1.5" longer each side than a fox. Its the same rearend in the fox body saleens. The 94+ rear axles are 3/4" longer each side than a fox. Ford used to make a cobra R that was made specifically for the fox bodies with 94+ axles/brakes. They don't anymore. It had more backspacing I think. If you wheels will fit a fox saleen they will fit your car with the LSC rear end. You can just swap the LSC brakes over too. There are brackets made now that allow rear disc to be run with fox body length axles.
The tire will play into this too. A Nitto is one of the narrowest 275/40/17 out there. BFG and Goodyear are the widest, almost an inch wider than the same size nitto. That can make a huge difference for you.
If it were me I would just run the 94-98 rear axles/brakes. Either that or buy wheels that fit a saleen if you are running the LSC axles.
LSC rear axle is WIDE. As mentioned before, it's something like 1.25" or 1.5" wider each side.
A set of 17x9's with 275's will probably more than likely rub because they will stick out.
You CAN modify the LSC rear disk setup for stock fox track which will allow you to run 5-lug fox lenght axles and have the same offset as when you had drums and run most 9" and even 10.5" wide wheels.
I ran the LSC brakes F&R for a while and it was a PITA to find wheels that fit. I had to run SN95 17x8's with 235's and it was close to the fender lips. I eventually ditched it all for Sn95 Cobra all the way around.
