I see that MMR is a site sponsor, which is great. Im planning on ordering their mod 800 5.4 shortblock over the winter. Anyone have any good or bad things to say about them. So far i'v heard pretty good things. Thanks in advanced!!
supposivly the owner is 1 of the guys who use to own x2c motorsports witch robbed tons of peoples money then split but dont know how true that is heard it threw the grape vine either way they build some bad ass chit any looks like some goods parts
Search around the big mustang forums like Corral, SVT Performance and turbomustangs.com. Overall their rep is pretty good, but they have had some hiccups. They are far from a company like HP Peformance which is a good thing. They have fair prices, but in the end you can get a motor built locally for the same money. Their shortblock prices don't include a lot of upgrades most of us would want. All the good upgrades like oil pump, aluminum block, ARP headstuds and ARP2000 rod bolts are all extras.
They take a full payment up front and in about 2 weeks your motor shows up.
When you say locally do you have any shops to recommend? Im looking to spend about 3k. Im sure they have had a few things go wrong but being a business owner i understand that mistakes do happen. It's how they fix/correct them that speaks for their customer service. One could make the argument that they sell a lot more volume than an local shop would therefor increasing their chances of mistakes. But im definitely up for supporting the local guy so by all means make some recommendations.
So i have been on the phone with MMR a few times and have to ay that their service has been great thus far. Answered all my questions pleasantly and was really helpful. So i think im gonna go thru them. I'll update as things go along.....
ABT Machine? in Holliston has a great rep. They would do all the machine work for Mondo Bob before he died. If they were good enough for him it should be good enough for you.
So. MMR has a black friday sale goin on tomorrow and they got some pretty good deals so im going to go ahead and order the 5.4 mod 900 for 2475 from 2999. I'll let you guys know how it all goes from start to finish.......

make sure you find out what is included with it first. On their site you get the price of the shortblock, but upgrades that most people want, like ARP2000 rod bolts and headstuds aren't included. Neither is an upgraded oil pump, windage tray, side bolt kit, coated pistons, etc. Also all their motors use iron blocks unless you select and aluminum which is another $700-$1000. I'm not saying don't buy from them, but just make sure you know what you are getting and don't just assume it comes with something.
Well i ordered it. I got the 5.4 MOD 900 with the following
ARP rod bolts(they are included) ARP main studs windage tray here is what it comes with from their site:
*Cast Iron 5.4. Block Block *New 4340 Forged 4.165 stroke Crankshaft w/micro polished journals at no extra charge *New 4340 6.658 Manley H-beam Rods ( These US made rods are shotpeened, magnafluxed and weight matched to bring you the finest H-beam rod available for your 5.4 *New Forged Manley pistons (High or low compression) *Speed Pro file fit rings (precision file fit to your application, nitrous, blower, turbo or N/A) *Speed Pro/Federal Mogul Rod and Main bearings *Complete Pro Assembly and Balancing for the smoothest, highest revving shortblock available, Pre-Lubricated with Royal Purple Assembly Lube and spin tested. 3009.00 shiped to my door
I dealt with Mark who i believe is the owner, who ever it was was really friendly and helpful. Took the time to explain any questions i had and was very helpful and honest. So far im very pleased with them. I'll let ya know what happens next. Thanks for all the info guys!!! Happy holidays
Hopefully!! i scored a set of anderson cnc ported heads with 1mm oversized valves , bronze spring guides, and stronger springs for 6 bills. Dont know what im gonna run for cams yet. I might keep the pi cams for now and see what happens. i still gotta buy 60 lb injectors, a sct tuner, boost controller, and lots of misc things so money depending we'll see......
My goal is 500 rwhp which shouldn't be a problem at all. I haven't put it on a dyno yet so i dont know. I'd estimate around 400 t the wheels at the 7 psi its at. The bottom end has some miles on t so i didnt wanna blow it up so i kept everything very moderate. It shoul hit the 500 hp mark at around 10-12 psi according to MMR and my turbo go to buddy. So there plenty room for more
I know i could make a lot more power but the car is gonna be a summer daily driver and it the drivability is awesome now thats why im thinking of keeping the pi cams for that reason.
the freight company called and said it will be here tomorrow. Money is a little tight man. All the little shit i need adds up to almost 2k so im just focusing on performance and function.
Its geiitng delivered to pats work. Im working from 10am-10pm so i sent it there. But i may need a hand either tomorrow night or saturday if your around that would be awesome man.... Thanks!!!
Thanks bud! I owe Mike big time, while i was at work sunday he puled off the nose and went to town and started the cleaning and painting project. I think he got a little sick of working on his car for the last 3 mos. It's a big project he's doin!!!1 I think it was more work than he anticipated. Once my car is done im gonna go down there every thursday and work on it for him. Summer will be here before we know it....
Update: got the motor fired up tonight and discovered I need a coil. Of course I buried them under the lower intake so i gotta take it apart again. But other than that it sounds great!!! The megasquirt has to be adjusted for the injectors and the new heads before i can even drive it to the dyno.
I'm gonna need to get some good tires for the back to try and get some traction. 245/40/18 is what's on there now. I don't think I can go any bigger unless I raise it up an inch. Anybody have any recomdations? I wll be driving it daily so they have to have decent street and rain manners. I like to carve the occasional corner so et streets or something similar is out of the question.
Wish full thinking- Next day off (Thursday) get and install new coils and get the base tune all set Friday- drive to work and rack up some miles for break in Saturday- change the oil and switch to synthetic and head to dyno to see what it makes
I'll post some pics up shortly when i upload them...
Besides the rear wheel rubbing pretty bad everything is looking good, i should be getting a eastwood fender roller tomorrow and take care of that thursday.
It's only base tuned until i break it in and then it's going to the dyno to get tuned, im hoping for 600 rwhp @ 14 psi on pump gas.
My buddy has a build thread of the car on turbo forums
That's my buddy who initially built the car. He has a build thread on there so he still updates the thread since we share a shop. He also is my go to guy so he still has quite a bit of work into the car with me this winter.
I didn't mind the mach wheels but i wasn't in love with them. I got a goo deal on the speedlines so i said fuk it. I would love to get some sort of forged wheel like ccw, iforged, hre etc.. But 4-6k for just wheels is a bit much right now, or ever for that matter. Lol
it got sold, ill keep my eyes out for another.. u gotta take me for a ride in this beast. that thread on the other forum is off the hook alot of time in this car
Indeed there is! That's why I sold the other car to get it. It had all the suspension and chassis stuff i wanted to do, the turbo and mod motor were also part of it too. It gor a bulletproof motor now so next isnthe body. A ball bearing turbommay slip it's way in there. :)
