i was going to install an electric fan in my fox. I dont have the relay for it to turn on and off automatically so i was just going to put it on a togle switch. But my question is should i put it on a fuse. And if so how do i wire that up battery to switch, switch to fuse, fuse to fan? Thanks for the help
Go to Autozone and pick up a 30A relay. You should really use a Bosch 75A relay if it's a Ford OEM fan.
Run a 12g wire from the POS side of the coil to the relay and then another 12G wire out to the fan power source. Ground the fan also using 12G wire.
Tape into the red wire fo rthe low coolant sender in the front driver's side near the rad. If the car doesn't have the low coolant cap, the plug will be hanging in the front bumper. Them run aground wire from the relay all the way back into the pass comparment and ground it and then splice a toggle in if you want to shut it off.
If you want it on anytime the car is running, just ground it in the engine bay.
You really need to use the relay as most switches are only good for 5A and the fan would blow it. That's why you gotta put the switch on the switching leg of the relay.
As to what fuse to run depends on what fan you have. Most Ford OEM fans spike to almost 75A on startup and 20-30A continuous. If you have a ford fan, i'd run a 50A slow-blow fuse.
