Hey so as some of you know i finally have found a car, a 97 gt, and now am trying to figure out what to do to it. Im trying to figure out how to gain both low end and high end power, with not alot of money at the time. I dont plan on doing everything at once, but over the course of a year or so i plan on finishing it. So what are you opinions on what i should do. I was thinking doing the exhaust first then working on some modifications on the engine. For the exhaust i was thinking about first just getting slp lm1's and replace my current glasspacks with them, will this give it a much better sound with stock manifolds, midpipes and everything? Then work on getting shorty headers and a catted x pipe [ i dont want to go through the trouble of getting a sticker with an o/r]. I would have the exhaust most likely done by end of October. Is it possible to just replace the mufflers with slp lm1's? And the should i get the mid pipe or the headers? Then i was planning on doing the engine and having it done by the beginning of Summer. I was going to do a cold air intake, pulley's, throttlebody, but after that i'm not really sure what to do. I took the summer off from work and used most of my money on the car but am starting work again so will be making money again. What are your opinions on what i should do, when to do it, etc. Any help would be appreciated, i know this is alot of stuff to ask.
i think that was another drunk post lol ^^ first thing is you will never be done modding your stang...so dont say you want it all done in a year, you will be pouring money into it as long as you have it just like the rest of us haha.
if i were you i would do a catback, cold air, pullies, then gears, and then, and then, and then..........
PI head swap with some longtubes and gears would be good to start. Pullies are a waste of money on that car. A JLT cold air may be a good idea if you want one of those. If you do the PI heads then do some cams at the same time if you want. A good X pipe and catback will also help open things up a bit.
After that get a tune @ Performance Dyno in NH and invest in some good tires/suspension.
I know stock 96-98's dont have much power, and it wasnt my first choice, but its what i spent my money on and ill sell the car if someone wants it but i got it for such a great price and figured ill make a not so amazing car into something amazing. Eh, i dont know.

Cobra motors with the wiring harness are going cheap these days, maybe $2000 max for a 99-01 motor, less for a 96-98. By doing that you have yourself a cobra pretty much. The block and crank are great and the rods/pistons are just as weak as yours. You would already have good heads to start with too. Just another option, a little more money up front, but you get better heads, aluminum block/crank good for 1000 hp and if you do a blower the stock cams aren't superb, but they are adequate for most.
Isnt a PI headswap a good amount of money? How much horsepower would i expect to gain with a pi headswap? Im not looking to spend a ton of money right away, more like gradually build it up.
96 to 98 cars came with poor flowing heads , cams, and intake . You could do the P.I upgrade ... which comes with cams ,heads , intake , new tty head bolts and gaskets . You will also need a tune when done . Becuase of the pistons in the 96 to 98 cars you will yeild more compression than the newer P.I. cars ....therefore making more torque and horsepower than a stock 99 to 04 P.I. mustang . You could E- bay shop and find some good deals to keep the cost down .... but all of it new would cost roughly 1200. to 1500. all said and done . The easier approach would be ...1st gears ,2nd x pipe , 3rd cat back, 4th cold air ,5th a P.I. engine from a crashed stang ( I'would get the tranny too . ) and 6th nitrous kit . You could eventually go blower , but it's costly and dpending on your driving habbits you could be fixing things all the time .
