hi guys me and my father in law are trying to fix his stang little by little. my question is everytime we give it gas and rev it to like 4000 rpm and up it hesitates and it wont go even when im driving and i try to go faster it just wont go it hesitates and its embarrasing lol but it just wont go what do you guys thing can you help me. or anybody lived nearby that can check for me thats my next fix other than body work thanks. its a 1990 stang 5.0 i lived in lowell.
So let me get this straight... When you start it up and give it gas and go to like 4,00RPMs it hesitates and car doesn't move at all? Is that what your saying? If that's the case, and if your car is a 5 speed, it could be the clutch slipping, and clutch is in need of replacement. If you have an adjustable clutch cable, it may need to be adjusted.. The clutch cable could also be junk such as being frayed.. Those are stuff I can think of If I'm reading your post correctly. Also have you tried checking the How-To section? see i dindnt write that as good i just put a clutch in what i mean is that i rev. the motor and sputer like i cant explain that good i suck, like something is dirty when i give it gas i replaced the fuel filter that wasent it i check the timing neither.
Have you tried fuel injection cleaner? Maybe the injectors are a little clogged, that may help.. Spark plugs? These are things to look for.. Try an engine compression test.. that link like I posted above shows how to do it if you scroll a few pages ahead on that site.. but I recommend doing the whole thing like it says.. It may help clear some issues.. Also are you getting any codes? Hope that helps bro, keep us informed.

It's hard to diagnose over the internet ... but asssuming you covered the basics ... plugs , wires, cap and rotor, and fuel filter and there is no MIL light on... Try replacing the coil . The older EECIV computers don't pick up misfires and therefore won't throw a code for it .
