1998 mustang wont start theft light blinks


i had just bought a 98 gt but the owner had lost the key so i put a new steering column in it and now it wont start and the theft light blinks does anyone know how to fix this without bringing it to the dealer?

get a new ECU with the key that goes to ECU ...google PATS Theft System tell you all about it

there is a little "chip" inside the head of the key ...when you stick it in the Ign sends the signal down to the computer to allow it to start ...when you swapped columns your new key isnt programmed to that old ECU so it wont start ...so go find a ECu with the key still in the car just install the key cylinder part and car should fire right up

I have the ame problem with my 98 GT but it's caused by a short in the steering column, i dunno if i set my wheel at a certain height she starts, give that a shot. just my 2cents confuse.gif
