i had just bought a 98 gt but the owner had lost the key so i put a new steering column in it and now it wont start and the theft light blinks does anyone know how to fix this without bringing it to the dealer?
are you sure this will work because i will go to the junkyard tomorrow and get the column and computer
there is a little "chip" inside the head of the key ...when you stick it in the Ign sends the signal down to the computer to allow it to start ...when you swapped columns your new key isnt programmed to that old ECU so it wont start ...so go find a ECu with the key still in the car just install the key cylinder part and car should fire right up
I have the ame problem with my 98 GT but it's caused by a short in the steering column, i dunno if i set my wheel at a certain height she starts, give that a shot. just my 2cents
