NOS is a name brand. Stands for Nitrous Oxide Systems. Made by Holley.
Nitrous 33% oxygen. The air we breath is about 20%. By spraying Nitrous you are injecting more oxygen into the motor. Also when it sprays is cools the intake and cools the air charge. Cooler air is more dense.
With a 255 LPH intank pump I guessing you already have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. You might want to look into getting some kind of timing control. I use MSD Digital Multi-Retard.
i want to do nitrous but i dont want my car to burn like the other fools that do....how to prevent that?
If you go with a small shot of nitrous (no more than 150) you won't have a problem. The two most important things are: 1. Have enough fuel (with EFI that is not a problem) 2. Taking out enough timing (2 deg. per every 50hp shot)
I don't think you need anything else. I ran 150 shot on a stock motor w/ 190lph pump and an adj. regulator. Just make sure you take out at least 6 deg of timing. You can either turn the distributor back or get a retard box.
if i were to run a 100 shot of the zex dry kit is it as safe as it sounds with there control box and easy hook up to the tps wire
I don't like dry kits. It relies on the injectors to inject the extra fuel. If you are or close to being under injected you risk leaning it out and blowing it up.

last season my car ran , 12.10 @ 113 with a slow 1.78 60' , do you think with a 150 shot and a 1.59 60' my car should run 10.90-10.80's ????
ok i have a ZEX wet kit sittin in my garage. my engine and tranny are stock with mods in sig. i want to run like a 75-100 shot ( have nozzles for 50, 75, 100 and 125). i was wondering if i should get a window switch or just do the push button thing. its my DD so i cant afford to blow it up. i have the little brain box that hooks up to the TPS so i believe its a WOT switch. i dont think its a window as well right? what else should i do before hookin it up and spraying. oh btw its a fogger if you didnt already figure that.

As far as activation goes all you need is a toggle switch. It will activate the system when you want it to come ON at WOT and OFF when you don't. The less buttons and switches the better. I have always liked the switches like this one from Summit but any toggle switch will work.
Stock motor and tranny can handle a 100 shot. Keep in mind that there is that chance that it can break. To be extra safe you should put 5 gal of unleaded race fuel in when ever you want to spray it. You will have to change you plugs more often. How often will depend on how often you spray it. You should also drop down a heat range. Stock mustang uses a Autolite 25 so use a 24. The colder plug will give a harder spark.
I can't express this enough to everyone TIMING is a big deal. You need to turn your timing back 2 deg per 50hp shot (100HP = 4deg) (75 = 3deg)
nick i can get a ful nx kit for my car for $300 what would i have to do so it would be safe
Stay small and you will be safe. Have you gotten your tuner back yet? You need to be able to pull enough timing out for the shot you are using.(2deg per 50hp) If you can't do it with the tuner you already have you will have to have a custom tune made. I wouldn't go more than a 100 shot.
Hey Nick: I wanna run like a 125 or 150 wet shot on my car, everything thats done to the motor is listed in the picture section under the pics of my car. I'm just not sure what the best brand is to go with so if you got any suggestions let me know because i order something and install it by april. Thanks in advance

alright Nick, i've got stock block, crank and rods, bored .030 over, ARP hardware top to bottom with o-ringed trick flow heads, systemax 2 intake and an anderson b41 cam bolted up to a T5z. i have a nitrous express wet kit sitting in the package waiting to be thrown on. should i use my 10 lb bottle or my 15 lb bottle? would i be able to get away with a 150 shot? or should i spray a little less? also, how well will my blower cam work with the spray? i know very little about nitrous, so any help would be great.

10lb or 15lb that is all a matter of preference. 150hp shot is safe. I wouldn't go any higher with stock rods. The blower cam will work. You most likely won't make as much power as you would with a nitrous cam.
What clutch do you have? Anything to aggresstive will most likely blow up that T5z. They are only rated at 275ftlbs of torque. Nitrous adds alot of torque.
the t5z's are rated for 300 or 305 or 310 or something along those lines. it's a zoom clutch, nothing too crazy, but should be enough as it's only going to be sprayed on the track and maybe once or twice on the street and always on street tires.
Gears are not as crucial with nitrous as they are with a supercharger or a turbo. There are a lot of people out there with stock gears running juice. But in my option you should go with the 3.73's.
thanks nick, thats what i was planning on doing, my old man thinks hes got a trick up his sleeve building this chevy truck he just sent the motor out to reids performance and bought afr heads...etc i'm not supposed to know this so i'm gonna keep my nitrous kit and probabaly hook it up this week and the joke will be on him and that heavy truck!
Hey would nitrous be safe in my all stock car? I know its an auto so it would have to be at like some type of WOT. but i was wondering if it would be safe for my car knowing that it has 100k miles. What kind of shot could i run like a 75 or 100? would that just blow up my tranny? Let me know what you think

You will be fine with 100 shot. Nitrous should only be used at WOT. If you are worried about you transmission you should have it serviced. Change the filter and change the fuild. If you plan on doing it yourself I am not sure what year they started but check to see if you have a drain plug in the convertor.
Thanks I only wondered because its a DD and i didnt wanna mess shit up or blow up my car, just want to add a small kit and try it out at the track. any suggestions on what brand or where to go to buy a kit? Im still looking around for some info on one

I like the Compucar kits as starter kits. They affordable and east to install in a few hours.
I tell everyone to go to Karl's but if you want it mail order Mustangs Unlimited is the only place I know that has them.
not sure if this is a dum ? but here it is anyways. whats the difference between a wet nitous kit and a dry kit. is there a difference in performance?
A "wet" nitrous kit mixes nitrous and fuel in the nozzle while it is being sprayed. A "dry" nitrous kit injects only nitrous, fuel is added by increasing the engine's fuel rail pressure to feed fuel through the engine's own injectors.
It depends on who you ask but I believe there is a difference in performance. I think you get better power out of a "WET" system. With a "WET" system you get better fuel atomization. Also they are safer kits.
I don't like dry kits because it relies on the injectors to inject the extra fuel. If you are or close to being under injected you risk leaning it out and blowing it up.
Nitrous by its self is not flammable. Nitrous is 33% oxygen. The air we breath is about 20%. By spraying Nitrous you are injecting more oxygen into the motor. Also when it sprays it cools the intake and cools the air charge. Cooler air is more dense. With a cooler, denser air charge that allows the engine to burn more fuel that results in an increase in power.
i need to find a cheep kit aslo what kinda shot is ok to run on a 8 1/2 compression motor
Compression it not that critical. Low compression ratios can work with nitrous oxide provided the proper balance of nitrous and fuel enrichment is maintained. Nitrous is used in applications from low compression stock motors to Pro-Mods which often exceed 15 to 1. Generally, the higher the compression ratio, the more timing retard, as well as higher octane fuel, is required.
Keep it small, keep it safe. 50-150hp shot Unless you have the part to handle it, (Aftermarket Block, Billet Crank, Billet Rods, High "QUALITY" Forged Pistons)
