oil PSI

i put in over the summer a freshly rebuilt motor, brand new everything but crank and block. car runs great then my stock guage kept dropping at idle sumtimes so i thought i was the guage, then i installed a bunch of autometer guages and it drops to 10ish psi sometimes at idle....this cant be good right??? when im driving the psi is at 50ish. any ideas???

sounds like you have too much bearing clearance. Also what oil are you using?

In a high performance engine you should run Valvoline VR1 Racing Motor Oil. I run straight 40W. Also you should use Fram HP1.

Valvoline as anti-foam system helps protect the engine even during extreme stress. Quaker State doesn't have that.

general rule of thumb 10 psi oil pressure per rpm 1,000=10 5,000 =50
i am not saying that's factory specs just an general estimate for a v8

10 psi per 1000 rpm is perfect thats all you need
your motor was proble built a little loose but a loose motor makes power
i run my chevy with 10 psi at idle every day no worries things the best motor ive ever had
and you have a ford it doesnt need much oil pressure

Straight 40 weight or even 50. 10psi at IDLE is acceptable. Oh, and by the way-FUCK SYNTHETIC!!
