project "fallen hero" please help me out!!!

im in the national guard i was at the springfield armory and saw a run down 87-89 mustang gt was just there i asked about it being the mustang nut that i am i hate unused mustangs....the captain there at the armory said dont bother with that car i asked about it belongs to major calero a special forces guy who died in afghanistan oct 29 2007 so it was a year to the day.......also the car looked like it was awaiting its owner who will never return....i had to do something i emailed sfc diaz and asked him if i could take the car restore it to mint condition and give it to the family and this is what he emailed me back.......

SGT Falorni,

I'm a full timer here at C/1/20. SSG Bloniasz sent me your email and filed me
in on your intentions. Let me take a moment to tell you how appreciative we
are of your offer. Please pass along our thanks to the other members of your
club. This news is very apropos, because the commander of the unit we share
the armory with wants us to remove the Mustang from the back parking lot.

Jeff was my Team commander and a close personal friend. He is buried in
Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island. I had the somber duty of
escorting Jeff home from the battlefield and was a pallbearer at his funeral.
The rest of the Team and I spent yesterday morning (the 29th) in New York
solemnly marking the anniversary of his passing.

Jeff comes from an amazing family. They are very close knit, and still feel
his passing deeply. When we informed them of our plans to travel to his grave
site and be there at the time the IED went off, they -in their pain- where
still compassionate enough to offer that we spend some time alone with Jeff
before they showed up. They then joined us at his grave and we all reflected
on his life together. After some time we departed and went to Steve's house,
our team medic, who lives close to the cemetery. There we spent the next few
hours sharing stories, some laughs and more than a few tears. Many of the
stories shared at Steve's house where about the deplorable condition the
Mustang was in, and how illogical Jeff's devotion to it was. Jeff loved that
car, for reasons only he knew.

It would be a tremendous gift to the family if you and your club could
restore the Mustang. It would bring a fond memory of Jeff back into their
lives, and depending on their plans for it, would benefit others as well.

Give me a call at the number below or reply to this email so we can
coordinate getting the vehicle to you.

Again, my thanks to you and the members for volunteering to undertake this
restoration,

SFC Ed Diaz
C/1/20th SFG(A)

guys i need help with this project i want to do a good thing for a fallen hero is there anybody out there that will help???

thanks sincerely,

fabio

Guys, Let step in on this. This is a WONDERFUL oppertunity for us as a club to get together and help another mustang enthuisiest out, show people who we all are inside, and most importantly show our respect to the family who has expirenced a horrible loss of a loved one. Please post some pictures as you said you would, also if someone could take the time, maybe fabio, give me a list of EVERYTHING we need as far as parts to get this stang restored to showroom condition, I will then go ahead and contact the amnufacturers I know to try and get their support on this and donante or at least discount us for this project.
I know this is a long shot for a lot of members on here but hear me out. We ALL know this project will be very far from free, not including our labor time however in my eyes, I couldn't care less about my time being spent doing this because I support this 110% In reality we are ALL going to need to chip in some money. I am going to talk to Jim on how we will go about collecting this money but thats the least of my worries, we need support from everyone.
I will keep you guys posted as us mods AND Fabio figure out the best way to go about doing all of this. Please bare with us, and no we will NOT slack like we have on other things, like meets. lololol

there was 2 articles i saw of mustangs being fixed like this. one was an 01 bullitt in which the owner was an active serviceman, and it broke and while he was on a tour of duty, it was fixed and upgraded for him. another was a fallen soldier who left his mustang behind and had a list of plans for it that his friends carried out in his memory. i think this is a great idea and i hope that all goes well. and the pictures look like it is a solid place to start. good luck!

BTW, in case if anyone is wondering, the project is still moving along.

Engine and trans are out and rebuiit. ENgine bay is stripped and being readied for paint.

Still a LONG way to go. We could use support in the way of donations of parts and cash.

Progress thread here

Project Fallen Hero Progress Thread

If you wish to purchase a t-shirt or sticker to show your support please look here

T-shirt and sticker purchase

If you wish to contribute parts or donate in any other way, click here

Please Donate to help finish Major Calero's Mustang

This project is entirely donation funded and worked on by Mustang enthusaists in their free time to complete a car for someone who paid the ultimate price so we can enjoy our hobby in Peace.

Not done yet.

Engine and trans are back in the car after having the engine bay painted. Car is basically prepped for paint.

Just trying to decide now if the car should get painted now, or if not we'll continue to wire up the engine and get the car driving on it's own power for the first time in....i think 4 years?

We are a little slow with this project just due to a lot of stuff going on and the amount of work actually needed to complete this.

This is basically where we stand

Can't think off the top of my head what parts are needed. But in anyone wants to donate parts you can PM me and i can be more specific. I think we need a lot of GOOD grey interior parts as the original stuff is pretty badly stained and faded.
