Hey that is kind of high. I think local napa parts stores do machine work for a lot less. I have a guy In townsend Mass. That is pretty cheap knows his shit but is partially retired so he only works when he has too. Its at country auto parts in Townsend mass. Its a little drive but will probably save you more than half of your quote of $900
Thats a decent price on the machine work so far. Might want to look into align honing the main saddles and balancing to rotating assembly too. Don't bore the block untill he has the pistons. Figure on reconditioning the rods with new bolts and also pressing on the new pistons to the reconditioned rods. If you are going to do it you might as well do it once and do it right.

A few yrs ago I paid right around $1100 for a dip, cam bearings, freeze plugs, line hone, .030 bore, pistons, rings, main bearings, reconditioning rods, crank grind .010/.010, and I think I'm forgetting something else... But like I said that was few yrs ago... before the American dollar took a dive.
This work was done at Reides in Whitman. They did great work, everything was right where it was supposed to be on reassembly.
I got my block hot tanked, bored, cam bearings and freeze plugs for a little over 900, the place i went to was pretty expensive because it was a hardcore drag racing shop. they almost didnt do my motor because it was a ford lol. I also got a 5 way valve job on my heads, the total came to about 1600.
