Turbos vs. Superchargers

I have been doing some research lately, In the future when I have money I have been considering either supercharging or turbocharging my car. Last night at the meet some small talk went on about which people would rather. Anyways I came across this thread off allfordmustangs, and found it rather interesting.

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/power-adders/1791-turbo-vs-supercharger.html

Which would you rather and why???

I say turbo !!... No belts to slip or wear out ... Plus Like 93 fox said it's basicaly free horse power because they are so much more efficient a turbo will make more power and torque with the same amount of boost as a supercharger/ blower . Another benefit is you can run lower rear axle gear ratio's like 3:08's for better fuel economy and higher top end speeds . Some of the fastest cars in the world are turbo charged !!

As much as I love the whine of the s/c and dislike the blow off valves of turbos becuase it reminds me of ricers.... you deff. got a good perspective scotty! I gotta agree with you on thoes statements. joint

The bov's are loud because they are being vented to the atmosphere, you can have it recirculate back into the air intake. That causes stalling issues, MAF wash, etc though. Its easier to vent right to the air and much eaiser to tune, but you get the noise. Take a ride in a turbo mustang and then a supercharged one with similar setups and power. You will never want a blower again.

Turbo charger is a much better choice by far...reasons were already stated in this thread, free HP, doesn't tax the engine to produce power. Bad thing is technical aspect, difficult to install, you need to move things around to make it fit, can be costly. All said and done turbo's are the way to go.

I like my KB supercharger. Instant boost is very addicting. I think unless you are all out track then a SC is the way to go.

Turbo although its not 100% free hp ( back pressure +) still worth the extra effort
