You will need the front sump oil pan and timing cover and dipstick off the 78 302. The dipstick and tube mount into the front cover. The motor mounts will be the same just attach them to the new engine. Plug the dipstick hole in the side of the 87 block with a 3/8 freeze plug. The easiest way on the front engine accessories is to use the whole set-up off the motor that is in the car. Everything should fit the front of the new engine fine. Unless your 78 engine has been swapped over to the pre 1970 3 bolt crank pulley set-up. 1970 and up were 4-bolt set-ups. If this is the case use all of the 87 front accessories. What ever you do don't mix and match harmonic balancers and flywheels or flexplates. The early engines built before 1981 had a 28 oz balance factor. The late after 1981 engines had a 50 oz balance factor. Swapping early and late balancers and flywheels will make the motor shake itself to death and produce some severe vibrations.

One more thing. If you are using a mechanical fuel pump you must also swap over the fuel pump eccentric on the front of the cam gear. Ford made 2 different ones. If the cam gear on the 87 motor is totally flat across it it requires a 1 piece ecentric mounted to the cam sprocket. If the cam gear has a raised shoulder in the center of the gear where the mounting bolt is installed. You will need a 2 piece eccentric. On your 78 motor it may have the 2 piece set-up. Once you open up the front of both motors then you will have to determine which one you need. As for your distributor. If both cams are flat-tappet set-ups in both motors then the distributor from the 78 will work in the 87. If you decide to stay carbed. If the 87 is roller and you stay carbed you will need a steel gear on the distributor.
