You said performance and put flowmaster on the list? If you want noise then go with flowmaster or mac. If you want performance you have some options. I have magnaflow since my car came with it. Borla is excellent quality and stingers sound mean and will be louder than magnaflows on an identical setup. I had Dynomax stainless ultraflows on my old notch and was quite pleased with them. They were a straight thru design, all stainless steel and they didn't get loud until you stomped on it. Bassani is another good company. Borla, Dynomax, Bassani or Borla will all be great mufflers. I have no experience w/ spintechs or hooker mufflers so I can't comment.

If I may...All these guys who have bad things to say about Flowmaster really gets to me...Just because a lot of stangs are running them doesn't mean you shouldn't buy them. They also don't suck for performance, they're just not very good...But sound mint...If you ask me, I build my exhaust with sound being the #1 priority, 2nd in line comes the performance factor. There are plenty other mods that you can do to make your car faster and perform better, but with exhaust its about sound.
Something about a Mustang with flowmasters just reminds me of a UPS truck. I never liked the tinny sound some have either. And the drone..AHHH. SOME sound good. Just my opinion. But, they are a good bang for the buck, which is why 90% of Mustangs have them. That and everyone else on the bandwagon has em. Back when I was in highschool, you weren't cool unless you had Flows on your Stang or Camaro etc, which is why I got Dynomax Superturbos!
I actually took off my flowmasters and put on Macs last week, and I couldnt be happier with the setup. Not to mention that the flowmasters had a 6" hole at the top of each muffler. Its like night and day with the macs though, minimal interior drone and I think it sounds much better
i dont like the sound of a lot of exhaust systems for the S197's 3 valve engine...just got the Pypes Mid-Muffler system for mine....cheap yet i like the sound
Here, listen to this...Nice setup with longtubes, o/r x, and Flows I think they're Super 40's. If you don't think this sounds absolutely nasty your smokin crack!!!
Fuckin link wont work...Go to youtube and type in White Heat Mustang
From my experience i would have to go with looks, performance and sound. I found all of these fetures in magnaflow straight through perforated baffle stainless steel mufflers. will not rust, corrode and added 5-7 hp to my car with just a bolt on.
