Nice Day, Good For A Fun Ride!

Well today, I was at work and a good friend showed up with his '99 GT. He bought it last winter and in the last year he's had it painted, bought new wheels, had new cams, supercharger, intercooler and methanol injection installed, and finally, had it tuned by Mike Dez racing. He knows how to drive too, and won the "STREET FORD" 12 second bracket class at last summer's Fun Ford Event at New England Dragway. I had never been in it before so I jumped when he asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. It was lunchtime, so my boss didn't care if I left for a bit.

The first thing I noticed when I got inside is that it's a lot quieter than my Cobra and is a lot smoother too. The idle was nice and the supercharger was quiet. DON'T LET THAT FOOL YOU! We made our way to the highway and as we exited the on-ramp, there were no cars in sight. He hammered it and we instantly went sideways until the redline. With each gear change, I was thown back into the seat with a big smile on my face. I couldn't believe how much power his car was making! We made our exit at the next offramp about 6 miles away and turned around for another ride back. It was much of the same, redline shifts, seat throwbacks and smiles.

As we entered my parking lot, he mentioned that he wanted to go for a ride in my car sometime (he'd never been in it) and I said, "How about now?" With that, we climbed into my Cobra and off we went.

I tried to duplicate the ride that he gave me in his car and I think I succeeded because he was smiling and commenting about how fun mine was. He said that it seemed as fast as his but we both know real the story. His 11.60's @ 118 is a lot faster than my 12.50's @ 108.

Riding in his car and comparing it to mine, the difference is like night and day. His car is quiet, smooth and fast, kind of like a Cheetah running through a field. My car is loud, rough and quick, kind of like a gorilla trying to brake out of his cage (I keep thinking about Donkey Kong, LOL).

In the end though, none of that matters. What matters is that they're both capable of producing a hell of a lot of fun! Man, I can't wait to hit the track this year.

Interesting little story to start my day off haha...I know what you mean about the smoothness...Kinda like when I took a ride in my cousins Audi S4 I think it was? The newer models with the V8 and it was a stick, it aint no stang but it had some balls and the ride was smooth as could be. It all goes hand in hand with today's technology but I love the roughness and sound of older muscle cars, thats what its all about holeshot

Hissing Cobra,

Thanks for the props man! I appreciated the ride in your car more than you know! That thing feels fast just pulling into first gear dude! I WANT one! I can say your Cobra was actually scary from the passenger seat. And that's exactly what I like. These new cars are a little too refined sometimes.

Definitely a cool way to start our days! Its not too often that you can flog two generations of stangs back to back. I've done a lot of things with cars over the years, but that one will definitely stand out in my limited memory. I can't wait for spring and meeting some more stang guys on this site.

9t9MnyPit, I have no idea how to post pictures. Maybe someone can help. They are on my work computer anyway so when I have a chance I'll post a couple. Hopefully my car looks alright.

-Brian

Thanks Brian! It was fun! I've got some pic's of your car on my work computer but his is the only picture I have on my home computer (which I'm on right now). I need to get more on here! What we should do is set up a photoshoot somwhere nice, so I can get some awesome shots.

Oh, you can upload pictures directly from your computer to www.photobucket.com . It's free and very easy to use. It automatically resizes the pic's so that you don't have to worry about that. Once they're uploaded, you need to "Copy" the IMG Code that's underneath each picture. To do this, you need to right click your mouse and select "Copy". You can then go to any website forum on the net and post the pick by right clicking your mouse and selecting "Paste". This is called Copy/Pasting.
