Within the next few months or so I would like to start putting a 331 together, I was just wondering if anyone had an opinion on what would be the most cost effective way of putting a motor together. Would I be better off sending it out to a machine shop and having them do the machine work and putting the motor together or would I be best of just buying a shortblock for about 1600 from DSS? Thanks

Do it local...if there is ever a problem you can just go visit them in person.
x2!! Do some research and get opinions about some local shops. I just went through fuckin' hell having my engine build in NC. I will never do that again!!

If you don't go with Foxboro Machine, try out my brother's (Retro 5.0) shop. He works at Mid - Cape Machine Shop in Hyannis (Exit 7 off of Route 6) 508-771-1988. He's been there for 22 years and it's just him and his boss Dave. They care about their work and you should have no problems if you go with them. For what it's worth, my brother built himself a 331 last summer and it makes 387 rwhp and 362 rwt. It runs 11.60's @ 118 without the help of a power adder.
