ya so i rushing to get my waterpump back on today so i culd go pick up a motor that i got for free and i started to thread in the bolt, and it wuldnt go all the way, cleaned out the whole best i culd, threaded it in slowly, everythig seemed good, then it got to a certain point and loosend up and kept spinng, , rather then take the whole timing cover off again im gonna try to use a really long 5/16 tap, anyone got any other ideas rather than take my timing cover off and tap it the right way haha

Heli coil x3. Or use a bolt 1 size larger. Either way you have to tap it out.

heli coil it man they work pissa , had same prob on a bronco i had and i had to use a heli coil try it out

ya i have the heli-coils but ill have to pull the timing cover, im gonna try a thread chaser first to see if i can get it to grab if not, heli-coil it is....thanks guys

That seems to be happening to alot of people I know haha. I broke a bolt into my block and cure it with a helicoil. Good luck

If it is one of the long bolts that screws into the front of the block. You will be pulling the timing cover to fix it. If it is one of the short bolts that screws into the timing cover. You can fix it in the car with the cover on. Either way you will need a 5/16 x 18" helicoil insert. Whatever you do, Do not break off the helicoil tap.

Drill it out with the required drill size, which is .332"-make sure you drill straight!! And, like Retro said, don't break the tap!! Use patience and oil, thread the tap in a few turns, then back it off, clear the chips, and continue that pattern. It really isn't a big deal if done correctly, but if you fuck it up-you won't be happyno.gif

ya i didnt even have to tap it, i guess i assumed to quickly that it was stripped, the bolt hole was filled with rust/dirt/grime/u name it, i sprayed some brake clean in there, the bolt threaded in np, i wuld have figured this out way ahead a time if i wasnt in such a rush....anyways, thatll learn me haha, thanks guys
