I know my rear end is on borrowed time . It's the only thing left thats stock aside from 3:90 's and extra clutches in the stock week ass 28 spline diff. Anyway this is only my good weather fun car and I would really like to launch it at say 5,000 rpm with full slicks and not break Would you go with a spool or limited slip
Spool, not much else is gonna hold up under 550rwp. Either that or something from Auburn or a Detriot Locker, 33 spline axles etc. Make sure you get your axle tubes welded, ask me how I know.

Cool it looks like its the spool for me !! I heard about what happened to yours Reef , Thrasher was telling me about it . I take a part time oil burner class with him . Anyway I feel for ya dogg and thats what I'm trying to avoid lol . It just would'nt be any fun to take to the track and have it puke its guts on the first pass .
hey bro idk how much money your lookin to spend but auburn makes a diff thats BOTH...a spooll and a limited slip, its electronicly activated, hit a button for spool, then on the street its limited slip....its totaly worth it if u have the dough....my buddy from warick has a 89 twin turbo notch with like 600+ tq and hasnt had a problem with it launching at 5-6000 grand.

I would go with a Eaton posi and 31 spline axles to keep the cost down. I know a vendor who sells all ford parts at 10% over dealer cost. I just did an 8.8 over the winter for my friend this way I think it was around $700 for the set up with a rearend shim kit, new seals and a new ring and pinion.
Thanks for the help my compadre"s !! They are all great suggestions . But in the end It's gona be about $$$$$$ . That Auburn sounds pretty nasty Big Frank and so does your buddy's car.
If you are going to street race this car ,be careful if you are using slicks with the spool. The spool will push you unlike a clutch unit. You can go with 33s or even better 35 spine axles with a after market race unit like Big Frank was speaking of.If you don't mind the noise I have been satified with a rachet type unit.I had a spool in a car that I was street racing and it could get wild sometimes. It was also bad to controll on really curvey roads.Good luck George

Auburn pro or detroit locker if you touch the gas pedal at any moment other than a straight line, use a locker. The problem arises when ur at a stop light taking a right turn, ur going to put that stress some where else. ie diff tubes=reef notch, suspension control arms. The car will not turn with a spool the front end will "push"

I've put probably 1500 miles on since new rear end. I agree parking lot manuvers are interesting but thats about the only time I notice it. I try not to get myself into those situations if I can. Also I grenaded last rear end because of smoked upper control arm bushings, not a spool. I was running stock axles/trac lock.

thnx for clearing the air about ur axle troubles. Back in the day i had a 26" slick on stock 28sp axles and trac loc. Twisted the axle so bad it looked like a candy cane. Had to torch it out of the diff it 2 pieces! Back to the spool question, If you have one on the street you will quikly find out where the weakest link is!
